Mostly OT: pan cleaning tips.

I had a similar looking dutch oven that had something .... over browned in it long ago... no amount of scrubbing would get it white again.

It's white now, without *any* scrubbing.

I have to wonder how that stuff would do on cigarette infested silicone bits in a cpap.

Market it as So-Cleaner??

Saw something similar in the past with a coffee service that had those Bunn 4-pot coffee stations. Someone left a burner on with a half full pot on it all weekend. Came in Monday to a glass carafe with burned-in coffee residue that looked like asphalt. I would have thought that carafe was a goner. They had packets of some sort of cleaner, like the size of a hot-chocolate packet, that they dumped in the carafe with enough water to cover the mess. After about 30 minutes of soaking, all they did was swish it around and it rinsed out spotlessly clean - no scrubbing or anything. I don't know what that stuff is, but it was impressive!

I would think that if it could clean a gunked-up coffee carafe or espresso machine, cleaning CPAP gear should be a breeze. Though, it potentially could be *too* harsh on surfaces less durable or more porous than glass/metal/porcelain... Or not... I'd try it on something sacrificial first.

Of course, we should keep expectations reasonable and within the bounds of reality. There's no way it could clean as well as the SoClean™ machine.

The only CPAP Sanitizer pre-cleaner.

Oh my, there is so much that I don't know when it comes to cooking (big surprise there ).
I didn't know that there was any sort of dutch oven that wasn't black and cast iron.

What I am wondering....and what I would like....is if this stuff will clean the caked on grease off the bottom of skillet/frying pans.
Anyone know? I have tried oven cleaner on it but it involves a LOT more elbow grease than I can muster up and even then doesn't do that good of a removal job.

I don't know, I've seen some machines that are so caked with tar and nicotine that the only thing I could think of that would get it clean is a house fire, which ironically, isn't usually that far behind.

Just saying.

Now I am craving a smoke.

i take it you're NOT using the expresso machine cleaner stuff?

I have a copper colored skillet that overheated, making a dark, stubborn stain in the bottom.
I cleaned it the best I could, then decided to send it off with flair,
cooking a pound of premium pork sausage, and laying down a gorgeous fond.
The fond lifted up into a batch of lip-smacking pepper gravy,
and when I decanted the gravy, the stain was almost all gone.

With real cast iron, a strong wood fire just put it in the coals, and cook it good, the carbon will burn off. then wire brush or sand it, then re-season it. Good as new! Jim

Ooops...didn't make my request clear.
I don't need to clean up my cast iron stuff.
What I need to clean up are a couple of cephalon non stick skillets. Insides look great...bottom and sides look like crap and feel like crap from the grease build up. These are my two "fryers" for when I fry anything so lots of grease bouncing around in the air.

Just turn down the lights in the kitchen, enjoy that Fried Chicken. Mom used to have a Splatter Lid for her Fry Pan, I haven't seen it in 30 years, it was made like a metal air filter, like a SS Pot Cleaner, it was her go to splatter shield. I miss her Chicken. we lived on chicken, it was cheap back then, we had a Egg Man (Farmer) that came weekly to your house took orders and delivered the next week to your door. He has some hens that laid double yoke eggs, he would sort them out and save them for me. Gone are the days of good hard working honest people, and real Free Range Fresh Food. Jim

We also had a Milk Man and a Ice Man, not to forget the Ice Cream Cart in the Summer, The E Man was the best. And a Food store, close to home, if you were lucky a Bakery also.

I am using the espresso machine cleaner on the pan. as far as I can figure, it's similar, chemically, to oxyclean. (sodium percarbonate and sodium carbonate) I don't know if it's got more, or less sodium percarbonate in it.

I used oxyclean in the past to help destink silicone cpap bits.

Bar Keepers Friend is really really good for cleaning stainless steel pans, I've had weird (but sometimes pretty) discolorations on pans that wouldn't scrub out, but BKF removed them easily, leaving the pan looking like new.

If you haven't tried it before, I'd recommend giving it a shot.

Two things come to mind... the espresso machine cleaner, and also, a trick I've heard of, but haven't tried yet (it's on the list)..

get a plastic bag big enough to put the pans (or oven racks) in, put them in with a capfull of ammonia and tie the bag closed... leave overnight...
