OT: Repeating Pattern of Bullying & Locked Threads

This thread is over my head.

As best I can tell, the argument is being made that we can help someone say nicer things to others in his posts by saying less-than-nice things about him in this thread.

And an argument for censorship is being made by people who are only allowed to make that argument because of the lack of censorship.

But hey, as long as it makes sense to everyone else.

My position, for the record, is that I endorse no one's posts. Not even my own. It certainly isn't my job to judge what others are allowed to say here. My job is to try to be helpful to EVERYONE with my own posts as best I can and only to worry about the example that I do my best to set.

I will say, though, that there would be nothing sillier than a self-appointed moderator attempting to start a grassroots uprising in a "lightly-moderated forum." That would be like trying to organize a protest movement on earth against the conditions on other planets. What would be the point?

Yes...Jason asked me to do spam patrol when he went on vacation a while back and at the time the middle of the night visits from the sports equipment/clothes/shoe spammers were highly annoying and he didn't want the spam to clutter up the forum until he got back from vacation and could get it removed.
So he gave me moderator powers so I could delete the spam and block the spammers from coming back at least with that account ID.

That's all I do in terms of moderation over there....Strictly spam patrol.

It is common to think that fighting fire with fire works well in handling people we perceive to be the same as us. It seldom works out that way, though, I believe.

I would phrase it that someone attempting to become a ringleader can expose himself/herself as what he/she actually is, if others read carefully.

Your punches are not landing. You are failing to incite a riot. Your dangerous speech is not making you into a beloved ringleader, so there is no reason to attack others you think have been successful at that here. I find your attempts at logic are failing to make sense to me, since the points seem totally contradictory. I say this to you as a favor, not in defense of anyone or anything. If others are grasping the points you are trying to make, that is fine. But I have no idea what you are getting at, myself. Guess I'm an idiot. Or a clown. Or full of stupid stuff. Or whatever.
