I've been working on high-pressure leak minimization for bleeps. Last night I had finger cots wound around the qr clips to prevent the air escaping sideways.
I think it worked.

Not enjoying it yet. Some teething issues. The bleeps are pretty maxed out at 22 cms, and I was too tired to put the mask back together after it exploded in the middle of the night.
The PS is great, but I am back to learning leak management for even higher pressure.

Its difficult. I had one DME tell me that the only thing that would work for my higher pressures is a full face mask.

My N-20 seems to be handling it ok. I've learned to adjust it in my sleep tho  when looking at my charts I can see clearly where the pressure goes up and a mask leak happens I adjust the mask without fully waking up. I found if I pull it away from my nose and let it fill up with air then drop it back down it seals well again. It works a lot better than cranking down the straps.

The bleeps leak at the join between the nose plastic and the mask plastic. The higher the pressure, the more the hiss. I wanted to have tubes of vinyl that covered the gap so that less air could leak from there. It is working. I also need to solve the issue of mouth leaks. Currently using a chin strap. I am trying the "oracle" as a mouth plug tonight.

Mouth leaks are the one and only area I have been lucky with. Its funny. I mouth breath during the day time. And I am always talking, to my husband, to the dogs, to myself but for some very strange and weird reason I put that nasal mask on my mouth stays closed. i am sure my husband wishes he had found it a lot sooner. sometimes he trys to get me to talk with it on but I can't, I sound so funny then he laughs. I know he is loving it.

This type of misconception seems to be common with those who have
NEVER used cpap/bipap themselves. (DME's are often prone to ASSumptions)
Actually trying the mask of YOUR choice is the only way to tell how it will work.

Write "Poison", with a skull-and-crossbones on your distilled water jugs. This way, people are less likely to drink it.

On the off chance that somebody doesn't notice the warning label, take an old bottle of nasal spray and write "Antidote" on it. Tell them that the antidote is very expensive and sell it to them for like $50, or maybe some jewelry.

A good recipe for fake antidote is:
  • 2 ounces water
  • 1 ounce white vinegar
  • 5 drops red food colouring
  • 1 gram of Franks Hot Sauce
  • quarter teaspoon of salt
As an added bonus, people will stop taking shit that doesn't belong to them. A good life lesson.

I got an inquiry via PM about my mouth taping technique.

Since I've changed the tape placement (Revision A), I need to update the pic. I thought this thread would be a good place for it. I've also realized some new things over time that are at least equally important to the position of the strips of tape.

Here's the pic. Minor modification, the angled vertical strips now extend down into the "soul patch" area, which is shaved. And I dropped off the horizontal strip in the same area.

Here's a list of my realizations over time.
1) Clean your face. I've taken to washing my face every night as part of my "getting ready" routine. I use the DreamPort, so after I'm done wiping the areas for these, I hit the areas where my mouth tape will go with the alcohol.
2) Be sure everything is completely dry.
3) Purse lips when applying 1st horizontal strip. (not new, but really important)
4) Press the tape strips onto your skin after you apply them.
5) after putting the 1st horizontal piece over my lips, i test it by blowing quite hard so my cheeks puff out. This lets me know if I need to start over.

Doing these things, this tape job holds up all night for me. Very rare to have a failure.

In this pic, I'm trying my darndest to blow the tape seal loose. I couldn't budge it. Not even close.

As proof of the effectiveness of all this combined with the Bleep DreamPort, here's my MyAir leak chart for the past couple of weeks.

Here's an item I suggest rather than tape. It's a stretch headband made from a thin, soft cotton like material similar to that of a T shirt. It is double thickness (a tube), but still thin with a seam at one edge. It doesn't unravel when cut. It is about 2.5 inches wide and fits nicely between the nose and chin. I think it would fit most without being too tight or loose. I wear it just like a headband only pulled down over the mouth and ears. I cut holes for my ears. It does not interfere with a P10 or Dreamwear nasal mask. When it is worn with the seam down, it tends to keep the bottom lip closed. It is porous so that chipmunk cheeks are less likely to form, but at the same time, it restricts the flow and reduces mouth leaks considerably. It also softens the noise of mouth leaks and discourages mouth inhalation. I've worn it for about two months and it has reduced my average nasal mask leaks (mouth) from an average of about 12L/m to about 5 rarely exceeding the large leak mark. I've see them sold at various places including grocery and drug stores. They cost about $5 for a set of five and are washable. One set should easily last a year. Here's some at Amazon.

P.S. I put the head band on and marked it with a pen to determine where to cut the ear holes.

I wear a full face mask so I guess this would be overkill... but I HATE a full face mask. I am a mouth breather though... did you start out with the nasal pillow and then figured out this Scunci deal? Just wondering if it would be something to try and maybe get off the full face... I do have the ResMed Airtfit F30 that I tried on recommendation of DME vendor but I was used to the foam rubber seal and not the plastic so found it uncomfortable. i went back to the ResMed Airtouch F20. But hate it. Probably skip half the month.

i use this and the p10. i started using both of them at around the same time. i just looked at jay's profile and he uses a p10 as well.

this truly was one of the best tips i've learned on this board. by using this rig and following other advice on this forum, my ahi is regularly under 1.

whatever you do, pleas don't skip using it!! i know it's tough but the more you use it, the easier it gets.

tell you what. why not start your own thread about your issues? you could post some oscar charts there and folks could focus in on you to advise you.

good luck!
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.
