Red sad face

Post by babydinosnoreless » Thu Dec 20, 2018 10:28 am

The leaks have been getting worse and worse with my dreamwear ff mask. I have an appointment with the dme tomorrow. That was the soonest they could get me in when I called like two weeks ago. I have an f30 pillow (thank you okie bipap ) and am hoping to get the frame and headgear tomorrow. Any suggestions for tonight? I have loosened it, tightened it, I use home made liners. I am at my wits end with this thing.

Are the leaks waking you up?

You are using SleepyHead...just how high is the leak line going?
Can you post an image of the report so I can see just how deep into large leak territory you are going and for how long?

Yes its waking me up and my husband with rude noises, less since I've been using the liner... Some nights I wake up to find myself holding my mask down so it doesn't leak.

Okay...it's bad and even worse waking everyone up.

Tell me again why you just have to use a full face mask. Have you tried a nasal interface?
At this point even a little mouth breathing leak would be preferable to what you are dealing with now.

In terms of the current mask...what size cushion are you using?
It's obviously sealing well part of the night and not so great other parts of the night. Probably related to tossing and turning causing mask movement leaks. Your pressures vary only slightly so I don't see pressure variations being the culprit.

My face (and many others) are not compatible with most full face masks.
After trying several, I went for the nasal pillows--and have never gone back.
It is not perfect, but it's a lot worse with every full face mask I have tried.
Their design failure is not my failure.

When I had my first sleep study they insisted on a full face mask, it was written into my prescription ff mask only. When I moved here and finally got my machine this doctor also said I would need a full face mask. I do not know why and no access to previous doctor or sleep clinic to ask.

I have asmatha, allergies and think I am likely a mouth breather. They made a small simplus ff mask work for my sleep study but I woke up panicked ripping at it trying to get it off. I am hoping the f30 with the hose in front instead of off my head will work better for me. I use a medium cushion with a small frame on the dreamwear. I have not tried a small cushion. I go to the dme tomorrow and will hopefully get to try some different stuff on. In the meantime any suggestions for tonight ?

Only thing I can think of for tonight...maybe just a little more tension in the headgear straps to better snug things up to better anticipate the tossing and turning mask movement.

Can you normally breathe through your nose just fine during the day? Normally as not when having an allergy attack or some such acute problem?
I was also told I was a mouth breather but my nose is just fine. Yes, I sometimes mouth breathe but it was more out of habit than anything else. It is a hard habit to break especially when I am on my back but it's minimal and I sleep through it and I just don't care.
The other night...2 episodes of known mouth breathing both of which I didn't even make it to large leak territory with and even if I had I wouldn't worry about it unless it woke me up or I spent massive prolonged time deep into large leak territory.

Now if you simply can't move enough air through your nose during the day to be comfortable...and you have to mouth breathe during the day then obviously it's not likely to change during the night and you need a full face mask.

Just because a doctor or somebody says you "need" something...doesn't mean they are right. You have already learned they are far from perfect.

I can get you a nasal mask of some sort for you to try if you wish. Won't be until after the holidays though as I am leaving tomorrow for a week. For free.
If you normally can breathe through your nose just fine...let's at least try a nasal mask and see how you do. They are much more forgiving when it comes to mask movement leaks. Much easier to keep sealed.
You might want to read this....he also thought he was a mouth breather and I nearly had to break his arm to get him to at least try a nasal mask.

Sure I will try one you don't have to break my arm.

I will try anything. Currently cutting out thicker mask liners from a quilt my dogs ruined. Maybe more padding will help.

When you have time take a stroll through the various nasal cushion masks and nasal pillow masks and see what interest you just by looking at them. https://www.cpap.com/cpap-masks
I don't know for sure which I might have or sizes....someone just sent the ResMed N20 I think it is. Looks complete too. I don't remember size.
Let me check and get with you on that later. I can't remember what all I have available.
In the middle of doing a bunch of stuff at the moment but will get back with you.
I leave for Vegas tomorrow and will be back next Friday.
If I can find something...and if you can get me your name and address by tonight (send me a PM)...I can maybe get hubby to drop it in the mail to you so you don't have to wait tomorrow after he takes me to the airport.
