Scared need some advice.

Post by Outaker » Sun Dec 02, 2018 3:41 pm

Hey guys.. rookie here who did a home study.. I had been feeling very tired and had some sort of heart rate issue with my heart rate jumping all over the place when I stand up from laying down.. (not sure if connected) now on a beta blocker for that.

Please let me know what you guys think..is what I have obstructive apnea or central? My oxygen levels going down at sleep at it’s scary because I have a pulse oximeter that buzzed my finger to wake me.

I had high hopes for the dream cpap and got it.. I’ve used the Machine and find it very difficult to fall asleep and my oxygen oximeter still buzzes.. my ahi is higher and my oxygen drops to 80s how much danger am I in.. any advice?

It looks like it is most likely obstructive in nature with more hpyopneas than apneas. Your number of events puts you in the mild category and your oxygen desaturation below 90% indicative of sleep apnea.

I don't know what surgery you are referring to. If you are referring to UPPP surgery which removes the uvula and reshapes the soft pallet, I don't know if I wouldl recommend it for relatively mild SA. This is a very painful surgery. I know. I had it done about 20 years ago. This surgery has mixed results. For me, I was able to put off getting a machine for about 15 or 20 years. For my nephew, it proved unsuccessful, and he had to start using a CPAP machine as soon as he recovered from the surgrery. If you are referring to correcting a severely deviated septum, or turbinate reduction, it may or may not help. However, it will make breathing easier even when you are not sleeping.

Nope, but they do hinder your breathing.

Just to get things going, if you have a few minutes it would be helpful if you read the sticky threads. Pay special attention to the posts about Sleepy Head.

Folks who will be most helpful will likely want to know:
a) What specific equipment you are using (Dreamstation is broader line of machine -- which one exactly -- and mask)?
b) Why has your sleep been limited using it? Mask comfort? Feeling of too much air? Too little? Dry mouth? Dealing with hose/mask? Moisture in the mask? Air leaks? Anxiety?
c) What settings are you using?

One observation, assuming I understand your data: Dips down to the upper 80s with treatment is way better than upper 60s without.

It is very common for people to have short periods (longer than 10 seconds) where they do not breath. This is flagged as a central apnea by the machine. If this happens more than five times an hour on a regular basis, then you are diagnosed with central apnea.
