Post by Wolfie300 » Mon Nov 12, 2018 11:16 am

Has anyone used the Respify machine to sanatize their equipment? Or heard anything about it? Basically, does it work? Does it damage equipment? Or your lungs? i have been using CPAP for less than 2 weeks, a newbie and dont know much yet. Cleveland, Ohio. Thanks

Re: Respify CPAP cleaning machine

Let me ask you a question....how do you think that using that product will remove snot, slobber, facial oils, etc from anything?

For me...cleaning means removing dirt, grime, snot, slobber, whatever and I have yet to see any machine that actually cleans by removing crap from my gear.
Now sanitizing...assuming it actually kills any bugs/germs is a different story but to me sanitizing isn't the same thing as cleaning.

Save your money....soap and water and common sense is all you need.

Sorry, wasnt clear. I meant sanitize, not clean. I agree you have to clean with soap and water. I was looking for quicker way to get rid if bacteria than with vinegar and water.

How do you sanitize your hands before preparing food or eating? How do restaurant workers sanitize their hands before preparing food for us to eat?

There's absolutely no reason to use anything besides soap and water.

All of the 'wooo, cpap, bacteria, bad' is just *bullshit* that's designed to scare the ignorant into spending unneeded money to buy a machine to do something that's completely unnecessary.

What bacteria are you talking about?
Where do you think it comes from?

But to answer your original question....I don't know of anyone here on this forum using this particular product. At least no one has ever mentioned it and I had to go look it up. My internet is slow today due to snow so I couldn't dig very deep into the product website to see how it says it does any sanitizing or any proof. I have no idea if it kills anything.

If you are a germophobe and you just have to kill every possible germ/bacteria that your own body will place on your equipment...up to you if you want to spend the money on it.
Sometimes peace of mind it worth it to some people. Your life, your money kind of thing.

I doubt seriously if you will find anyone here even using the product.
Most forum members here are happy with soap and water.
Vinegar soaks aren't really even needed.
Hot soapy water does wonders.

Soap and Water works, what kind of bacteria are you waging war on. Most of the Bacteria on your stuff is on or in you, some is even needed for good health. Jim

It's another ozone generator, this one is battery powered, so less ozone than plug in models, but still enough to cause lung irritation (since it doesn't take much for that.)

Hi Wolfie300

I'm assuming you don't have a compromised immune system. Maybe if you do have a compromised immune system this might be hepful.....

I haven't seen this before, but looking at the material, it is a battery powered ozone generator, that fills an air tight container with ozone. Please read this from the EPA regarding ozone being used as air cleaners is a lung irritant. https://www.epa.gov/indoor-air-quality- ... mful-ozone.

Think of the path the air takes through your machine...From your home, through the filters and the pump, then the humidifier, then the hose, and finally the mask, where it's attached to you. You're breathing the air in your home constantly. How do you sanitize it before you breath it? Next the air passes through the filter capturing dust/dander etc. When you're not wearing a mask, you're breathing all that stuff during your normal day. Your body itself is protecting you from the airborne stuff. Please see this discussion.
viewtopic/t95205/What-is-the-effective- ... chine.html

Passing though the humidifer, hose and mask which all can be cleaned with soap and water. Here's another site to read about the effectiveness of soap and water from Scientific America https://www.scientificamerican.com/arti ... -of-germs/. It says that soap and water really are almost 99.9% effective at killing germs.

Now lets discuss you, a dirty germ ridden organism. Every breath you exhale is filled with germs and such https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3405091/. But guess what... every time you breath out, that positive air pressure from your cpap (Continious Positive Air Pressure) device is blowing that right out the mask.

Basically as many people have said, you're overreacting to a manufactured danger that is not real. Since you're breathing the unfiltered air two thirds of the day, why aren't you already getting sick from all the airborne illnesses? If you're washing your stuff with soap and water which already kills 99.9% of the germs, what is the ozone supposed to be killing? Now add in the added problem of ozone being a lung irritant.

These companies are selling fear. This particular variety of fear is cheaper than the other ozone generators, but it's still fear. Rest easy at night.

-Bill

Agreed, except they conflate sanitizing & cleaning. Neither product mentioned cleans.
