I was scheduled this past Friday for PVP green light laser surgery on Oct 18 at/by the VA. While touted as being done on an outpatient basis, 23 of my previous in-patient VA-related 'GA' (general anesthesia) surgical procedures since September 1969, roughly half of my 6 total initial outpatient procedures ended up requiring immediate hospitalization with 2 of those further requiring 2-5 day surgical ICU stays. Remaining post surgical hold-overs were handled by the simpler surgical ward. I understand the risks and reasons either way. Without going into a lot of detail beyond that my primary question here is if any male forum member has had this specific procedure and how long before you could return to 'normal' activities and how it may have affected your CPAP treatment? I won't take the CPAP machine along initially for the surgical appt as my son can always run to my home, get it if required and return with it to the VA afterwards as its only a few miles away. Additionally my VA Pulmonologist will be informed as well as several other of my personal VA physicians.
My primary concern is my new-found 'normal' daily walking/sleeping regimen. Pre-CPAP and COPD diagnosis I never walked or exercised for years, if not decades. But since starting therapy I've worked up to walking 5 miles per day 5 days per week for the past 6 months. Would prefer to do it 6-7 days a week but due to foot/ankle/calf & knee pain/soreness am limited for now to backing off a couple days per week. While I don't 'love' walking I don't want to lose/postpone what I've worked up to and/or go back to my old ways. Due to my history of course surgeon won't go out on a limb beyond PVP statistics and 'normal brochure results' while I'd prefer some first-hand feedback of those who have had the procedure and are/were being treated for CPAP, ie; what was your personal experience with PVP surgery/CPAP and resuming 'normal' activities?
TIA for any/all experiences shared!
