We need to remember, that for most of us, the differences are insignificant.
Playing fast and free with science and the truth should not offer an advantage, but it does.

Despite granny's concerns, it is very useful. You get to see the ingredients of a variety of products.
You either failed to read, ignored or didn't understand the links I gave you.

EWG has a habit of withholding information that is unfavorable to its activist positions. The most egregious example is comparing pesticide residue on conventional fruits and vegetable with Big Organic's fruits and vegetables. They publish articles showing the amounts of residue on conventional compared to no residue on Big Organic. What they don't want you to know is that they only tested for pesticides used on conventional. They did not test for the pesticides used by Big Organic, so of course no residue was found on Big Organic. But, the FDA has tested thoroughly Big Organic and found similar levels of residue. Yes, Big Organic uses pesticides. There are over 400 approved, some of which are synthetic and some are more toxic than conventional pesticides. (But, don't worry, both types of crops are safe. You are just going to pay a lot more for Big Organic.)
Oh granny, we aren't talking about fruits and vegetables we are talking about dish detergents. I did look at the background information to the wiki article, but it didn't change my opinion. It's still only a relatively few that voice their concerns and nothing new to me. I don't use EWG for pesticide info on f&v and I don't plan to. If nothing else because we try to get our f&vs locally whenever we can. As EWG is basically concerned with american f&v (I imagine) so what they say about doesn't have a lot of relevance for me.

I don't know why you have such a big bone to pick with EWG, but I don't share it. Used as a data base for household cleaning products it suits my purpose. I, like the original poster, have specific sensitivities and it is a good resource for investigation.

I never believe anything 100%, like I said earlier, it is information and nothing more. Yes, I believe they are over the top, but I also believe super corporations are deep down dirty. In a way it's my way of balancing the two extremes.

I think it's time to agree to disagree. For my part, i certainly will.

The final reference for cleaning products should be the material safety data sheet.
Once called MSDS, now the "safety data sheet", I believe.

Of course not. You apparently never heard about them until this week. I've known about their treacherous positions for a number of years.

I don't think you are interested, but if you ever become interested, talk to a few farmer members of the National Farmers Union, the Alberta Federation of Agriculture or the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association. They will give you straight forward opinions of EWG.

Original (blue) Dawn dishwashing liquid. No fragrances or residue. Been using it for over 13 years.
Recently, I've been using Coast hand soap for occasional quick cleaning of my mask seal/cushion. Again, no fragrance or residue and it rinses off squeaky clean.

Original Dawn does contain fragrance--read the label.
Even most Method hand soaps do.
I used to buy the Method unscented at Target, but can no longer find it.
Dawn free and clear is lightly scented, but still scented.

Good, stand by your opinion... don't let annoying little things like facts get in the way of a good opinion.

If you rinse the items thoroughly, there is no residue/fragrance/scent.
At least, not to me and my nose.

Weirdly, even "Palmolive Pure + Clear" is scented. It only promises to be free of "heavy fragrances," not to be fragrance-free. I assume the scent is a masking scent to cover any slight scent the detergent chemicals themselves may have.

Dawn and Ivory both leave a fragrance...
Try this. After washing and rinsing, spray with 100% plain old white vinegar to remove soap residues & scent. Rinse very, very well and let air dry.

Great read tonight in this thread!

Thank you so much ChicagoGranny. I'm copying and pasting your posts in an eMail to my nurseryman family.

I will be so happy when this bubble of misinformation (   ) bursts.
(If only a "drift catcher" could record it? :?: )

*I* use Dr. Bronners Peppermint to clean my mask (and everything else I can) ~~~I believe it even cleans DRIFT!
mmmmm .... minty tingly!
Began XPAP May 2016. Autoset Pressure min. 8 / max 15. Ramp off. ERP set at 2. No humidity. Sleepyhead software installed and being looked at daily, though only beginning to understand the data.

There is a significant amount of blatant BS on that activist page. I don't have time to go into it today. These people would create mass starvation if given the power.

My sister in law grew up in an area where pesticide drift was largely ignored;
and she developed emphysema from it. She has been on oxygen for years,
and has recently been started on a respirator.
Her mother and both siblings died from lung cancer.
Safer application methods need to be developed/used, as stopping
the use of pesticides would most definitely result in world-wide famine.

There's some wingnut ranting over on Reddit (I know, right?) about how dawn is *evil* and will, apparently, kill not only me, my whole extended family, but everybody within a 10 block radius of my house if I wash my cpap equipment with it.

"citing" mommy blogs and skin care blogs as 'proof'... which go back to .... you guessed it... EWG.

That Moms Across America is a sick bunch of women preying on scientifically illiterate mothers. Check out their FB page sometime. They make good money shilling for Big Organic and various marketers of "natural" cosmetic and other "natural" products.

Meanwhile, thousands of mothers pay unnecessarily high prices for "organic" and "natural" products. Many have even cut back on vegetables and fruits in their diets because of the scaremongering about pesticides.
