I find it interesting that all the anti SoClean posters who want you to think they have some sort of holier than thou marketing moral fiber or supreme knowledge about keeping their equipment as bacteria free as feasible think nothing about calling a customer of one of such products a shill, sucker or worse. Perhaps they have nothing better to do with their time. Perhaps they are disgruntled x employees. Maybe they work for P and G? Who knows? But they are not being helpful, only hurtful and are not helpful to anyone. Hey, there is a hot new product for your gang to attack. It’s called the Virtuclean. Can’t wait to see how thrilled you get from pouncing on those who ask about or claim a positive experience with that product!
The Anti-"soclean" posters are trying to keep people from *wasting* hundreds of dollars on something that is
  • not recommended by any manufacturer,
  • not even slightly effective at cleaning,
  • not needed in the first place,
  • may be detrimental to the cpap and mask.
  • purely marketed based on fearmongering
I'm sorry that this simple concept appears to be beyond your ability to understand.

I've been a SoClean user for about 3 years now. I generally avoid things that I think are 'overmarketed'. Also, my wife and I were very hesitant to spend the money but after a recent bout I had with pneumonia we decided to splurge.
No, you two didn't decide to splurge. You decided to burn money. The next time, you might want to find a good local charity.

So, when someone comes here to ask about a product, we're not supposed to tell them about what has been previously discussed or give our opinion? Have you ever read other product evaluations on Internet sites? They can be pretty brutal.

Your response reminds me of the line in the movie........."You want the truth? You can't HANDLE the truth!"

I suspect that you didn't even bother to read this whole thread........including the links to other sources that we listed.
Even the manufacturer's instruction manual states that you have to "CLEAN" the equipment (by hand with soap and water) BEFORE you use the SoClean machine.

Again....... (Page 7)

When somebody joins a group, just to talk about a product, they tend to be somebody trying to promote the product. In this case, it is well known that the product does not remove slobber or facial oil, so you still have to clean the mask. And anybody who has used cpap for a year or more without using this type of product is aware that they don't need it. Most of us tend to get sick LESS often with cpap than before, so we know that the cpap is not dangerous or making us sense.

It is pretty obvious from the commercials, that this company is trying to scare new users into buying their product.

I am 3 years into cpap use. First year was a brick. Bought an apap off Amazon and tried various masks and settled on Dreamwear nasal cushion. Insurance has ridiculous deductible so I went on my own. I have had no issue with a daily unscented baby wipe of the mask, and a once a week wash of the humidifier water chamber, nasal cushion, and filter. Once a month replacement of the fine particulate filter, which is not washable. I thought I would benefit from a Soclean, but upon further reading on this forum, I got over the scare tactics and saved $300.

I think one of the issues with SoClean fans is that they have invested $300 in their machine. There is a sunk cost. They can't prove it works, but they don't want to think they wasted their money so some of them can't admit to themselves or others that it isn't a necessary device.

And this is why we continue to point out the *fact* that SoClean is a scam, and *completely* unnecessary.

So much so that a SoClean owner on another forum indirectly threatened me with a defamation lawsuit for thinking SoClean is unproven to prevent sinus infections in regular CPAP users. He even said he would offer to be an "expert witness" against me in the lawsuit he imagined. I think some people invest way too much of themselves in their SoClean, both financially and emotionally. :-/

I worked with a woman whose husband took his hose with him to the shower every morning to wash it. I never figured out what he thought he was washing out of it. I understand washing a mask but how does the hose get dirty in the first place? Changing your filter keeps your machine clean inside.

I understand that a dedicated handful of you believe very strongly that SoClean's marketing and using what you call scare tactics is wrong. I will even give you that! That you also believe that it does not do what it claims to do. Are you a board certified Neurologist and Pulmonologist? Are any of you anti SoClean people one? My doctor who is recommended this to me. I trust him over you and those like you on this forum. That you also believe it cost too much, etc. You are entitled to your opinions and you also are helping would be buyers on the fence to make a more informed decision about if they should purchase or not. Even though I disagree with you on many of these points I think that varied opinions are great and helpful.

What I have a problem with is the name calling to the poster. You have absolutely no excuse to do that and moderators should caution against it on the forum. If you want to put down a product and the company marketing the product please do so! But leave the poster alone. You accuse them of things blindly without knowing where they are coming from and your efforts are probably backfiring and promoting more sales of this product since your comments that do dig into the poster and not just the product likely discredit any of weight of your comments in the mind of an objective reader.
