Well, out of this ninny's thread, anyhow.

I've got a number of smart, clever, wonderful women friends. I think they're awesome.

It's fine to not understand something, and need more explanation, everybody has to learn, but don't pull the act "Oh, I'm a woman, i can't understand because I'm a woman".

Are there bits of the battery power setup you still don't understand? if so, which? we can help.

It matters to some of the gentlemen here too.

I love my Goal Zero Escape battery -- sadly, they don't make it anymore. I recharge it when power level is 40% and before storms or high winds are expected. When power goes out, I unhook my humidifier and plug my machine into the battery. Simple. I have solar panels that I have never needed to use for recharging.

I've been havinn a conversation with the Goal Zero folks to write a doc for us electrical dummies who haven't a clue to determine what their CPAP/APAP/BiPAP (people using oxygen concentrators too) power needs are when offgrid, how to think/assess how many nights might be needed (hurricane or flood might need multiple nights), campers/river rafters who might also need a "Backup Power for Dummies" doc as well as discuss airplanes as lithium batteries are not allowed (unless there is an exception for us hoseheads). They are discussing writing a doc for us as they get requests for help all the time. I promised them if they write it, I will post a link. Even if people end up with a non Goal Zero solution, the paper should be educational.

You could also get a recording oximeter with an alarm that you can set to go off when your oxygen level drops to a specific number. Then, although your sleep will be fragmented, you would not experience dangerous oxygen level drops.

Thank you. I ordered the dc cable for my machine and the one to connect my battery to. My husband has a U1 battery that I'm going to use. I don't think it's a deep cycle battery, so I don't know how long it'll work for. Even if it's only for half the night, it's better than missing the whole night.

Almost all U1s are deep cycle; a few are motorcycle/jet ski starters. If it lists amp-hours (about 35) its probably deep; if it lists cranking amps its starting. Its also possible dual service. If its a starting battery it will probably work a few times (5? 25?) but will die an early death.

If this happens a lot, another thing to consider is a small inverter generator. They've been coming way down in price.

Not sure what you mean by "inverter generator" - If you mean something like a Honda 2000, its a great item to have, but not recommended for unattended overnight use. It best for recharging the battery in the morning.

If you're following the current marketing gibberish where battery packs suddenly became "solar generators" then, maybe. The Lithium packs have come down to the point where if you need the light weight for hiking they're worth while. But for home use, where weight is not an issue, you can't come close to an AGM-based battery pack from a known vendor. And getting a basic un-bundled AGM is the cheapest, most powerful by far.

Yes, I meant like the eu2000i. I have a couple of them, and besides the normal hours-long runs for thunderstorm outages here, I ran them round-the-clock for a couple of weeks straight after Hurricane Irma. But they're expensive, and I've seen some much cheaper knockoffs lately.

I keep an EU2000i on the boat as the final fallback. I converted it to propane so I don't have to carry gas on board, and so the carb doesn't foul from disuse.
