An article on Yahoo! "Can Snoring Kill You?"

Post by Wulfman » Thu Dec 28, 2006 12:13 pm

Saw this article on Yahoo! this morning.
More attention being given to our ailment.

What I found "interesting" (and in some cases, frustrating to read) were the comments posted by some readers.

Best wishes,

That's okay..................some people are bizarre! I'm just glad I...............and all the people on this forum had the sense to talk with their primary care physician and get some therapy. At least we realize it's both serious and important.

Statistics

Post by t-bone » Thu Dec 28, 2006 5:31 pm

The first thing to jump off the screen at me was the statistic that 5% or snorers or 2-4% of the US adult population has apnea. I've heard numbers ranging from 18-25%, but never as low as 2-4%. I've also heard that the actual percentage is underreported, but by that large a margin?

As for the comments, well...seeing the same exact comment more than twice in one batch of fifteen comments tells me how well that section works. I wasn't going to read through all 240-some odd (some even odder than others) posts to find the five good ones to cite here. Sounds like a lot of flame-throwing happening there, too.

The sleep experts here have been saying that 4% of the poplulation have apnea. They have been pubicizing that number for years. 4%???? Somehow I find it hard to believe.
