S9 Autoset Still Available?
I'm in the market for a new machine. My S9 Autoset has served me well these last 7 years. I was just laid off after 30 years with the same company, and I've got to learn whether I can score a new machine before my health coverage ends in March. My current machine has over 20,000 hours on it and can't last forever.
The default successor in the ResMed line to the venerable S9 Autoset appears to be the AirSense 10 Autoset https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... idair.html.
But I noticed CPAP.com still lists the S9 Autoset as available with humidificator for a little less than the new AirSense 10 Autoset https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... chine.html.
Is there any clear advantage to the newer machine? More cupholders, better lumbar support, maybe projector headlights? I don't see anything that needed fixing in the old design. But I expect at least a few of you have made the transition, and I'd appreciate your thoughts.
If it's true the S9 Autoset is still available, and that's not outdated information, I might just go for it.

Hi Slarty.... I love saying Slartybartfast! How in the heck did you come up with that word? Sorry to hear about your job. Anyway, I got the Airsense 10 and I can't tell any difference between it and the S9. I'm probably like you, and love the S9. If I had a free drop, then I would take the S9, but both are excellent machines.

OP, you can buy a brand new Airsense 10 Autoset machine for around $495. Without a prescription. From here: http://www.secondwindcpap.com/Used_CPAP.html Make SURE you order the "Autoset" version, as there's 4 models, and that's the one you want.
Also, there's a person on Amazon that sells them.

The moniker is a character in Douglas Adams' Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, a trilogy consisting of 5 books at last count. Slartybartfast was the designer of the Earth who worked for a then-defunct company that specialized in the manufacture of custom planets. In the BBC radio series, then the books, and then the movie, Slartybartfast was very self-conscious about his name. I spent my career which, until a few weeks ago, spanned 35 years. I was a product development chemist for a large pharmaceutical company, specializing in new prescription drugs. So while Slartybartfast and I have technical creativity in common, the scale of our endeavors is worlds apart. And I don't like my first name, either. So Slarty and I have a few things in common. Hence, my use of his name.Sheriff Buford wrote:Hi Slarty.... I love saying Slartybartfast! How in the heck did you come up with that word? Sorry to hear about your job. Re: S9 Autoset Still Available?
The only real disadvantage of the S9 is that they will run out of parts for it sooner since it is no longer manufactured. Due to the popularity of the device, I don't think that's something to be overly worried about. If you are happy with your S9 and it's giving you good results, no reason to get the Airsense.

As I recall, Slartybartfast was quite proud of the fjords in Norway, which he designed.
I am told they are brilliant, especially Pulpit Rock.

Re: S9 Autoset Still Available?
I had an S9 for a few years and got an S10 Autoset about one year ago. I don't think there is much difference in the quality between these two machines. It may help you to know that the slimline hose and machine filters used on the S9 are identical to those used on the S10. The heated hose for the S9 does not work with the S10. The sleep algorythms on both machines are similar. The truth is the S10 isn't much different from the S9. Personally I always prefer the lastest tech for these machines and I would recommend the S10 Autoset simply because it is newer technology.

Love the Red Green picture too. Actually traveled several hours to check out his concert. I think the wife threw away my suspender's tee shirt, it just kind of disappeared. I wonder if I still have my Red Green book?Slartybartfast wrote:The moniker is a character in Douglas Adams' Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, a trilogy consisting of 5 books at last count.
