Rapid shallow breathing

My husband is 68 years old. He is finally able to sleep with his Resmed C-pap. I have noticed a loud, rapid noise while he was sleeping. I was able to record it and it is his breathing. His respiration rate is 52 and the episode goes on for 30-60 mins. We told the sleep clinic, at the VA, where he is receiving his treatment. They didn't seem at all concerned. They are going to give him an O2 sensor to wear to check his O2 levels during sleep. I am concerned that this is a more serious issue. What can you tell me?

We can't possibly tell from here what's what, not knowing more about your husband, his machine, mask, settings, anything at all, much as we'd like to help, but very many things could be an issue, most of which are not necessarily dire by any means, as scary as things probably seem to you. However, you're always free to go to Emergency, of course if he seems to be in distress (rather than things being e.g. noisy). When is he having the oximetry?

My friend also pants when using PAP but his doctor was not helpful. If you learn anything, please share.

I would be concerned with a RR of 52. You want an appointment with a VA specialist. you have the sd card and can take it to a sleep doctor specialist for a second opinion, I'm aussie and don't know, it will may be out of pocket, as you are VA. There may need to be a sleep study done, you will need VA to do this. If it is only for a while, it may be a REM or other stage, sleep disorder. it all depends.
