OT: better sleep in Ireland?

Post by mrcrayola » Mon Jan 01, 2018 9:36 am

Hey all. If I'm violating a board rule here with this post, I'll trust the admins will delete this and thereby send me a message. I'll be looking to do something with my 401(k) very soon and I'm eying a property in western Ireland, County Kerry. It's definitely in the country, about 50 yards from cliffs overlooking the Atlantic. Yep, it rains a lot in the Emerald Isle, but imagine co-owning a property that's undergone some decent upgrades, with three bedrooms that would pass as "master" in size in most U.S. homes, with two upstairs and one on the main level. Imagine a night sky rated by NASA as having zero light pollution. No central heat but a large, centralized wood/peat stove and electric heaters for the upstairs. The closest pub is about an 8 minute drive down a one-lane road with great visibility (I've driven Irish roads with NO visibility - exciting times!), the nearest village within 15 minutes, and the largest town maybe 25 minutes away.

There's much more. I don't have all of the answers for navigating Ireland's bureaucracy and rules that tend to disfavor non-EU citizens, but I'm willing to take the time to find them (perhaps some of you already do?). Anyway, if this sounds intriguing as an investment and/or personal (occasional) vacation home, let me know and we can take it from here.

Cheers,

mc

First off, you do know, don't you, that while the pub may be only 8 minutes away, the distance home is likely to be a whole lot longer - especially after a long conversation with Mr. Dingle.
Also, Ireland is significantly impacted by the Brexit deal. Do you expect the bias will remain or be exacerbated ? http://www.thejournal.ie/brexit-deal-ir ... 9-Dec2017/ In part, I would think a lot would depend on your openness to the human, emotional, and historical landscapes of the area as well as the geographical and geophysical.
