Change in pressure

Post by AMESS » Sun Dec 03, 2017 4:39 pm

Seeing a lot of posts that say changing the pressure may make life more bearable. Could some one explain what that means? TY

Im sure I'll get corrected if wrong but I think they are talking about minimum pressure. Raising minimum pressure reduces events because it doesn't have to ramp up to get there.

We would need to see your sleepyhead data in order to answer your question.

Based on your signature you have an Auto machine. I guess it would come down to what your issues are and what your data on machine says.
That's about as much as I can help.

If you are running a straight CPAP, having obstructive apneas or hypopneas, raising the pressure will help. If you are running variable pressure, raising the lower threshold can help with the OAs and hypopneas. Even with the variable pressure, you may need to raise the upper pressure to control the OAs and hypopneas. If you are having central apneas, raising the pressure will do nothing. Without seeing some sleepy head charts, it is hard to say what changing your pressure would do. My machine is set with minimum EPAP of 9 and maximum IPAP of 25 with a pressure support of 4. The lowest my machine will go is 9 when I exhale, and 13 when I inhale. It is free to go as high as 25 if needed, but it only goes as high as it needs to and seldom goes over 15.

After all this time she still has no idea what Cpap's about... the most basic feature, minimum pressure. Disgraceful.

The goal is to optimize settings to where the user is getting the most therapeutic value from their treatment. Changing pressures just for the sake of changing pressures is of no help. If done with knowledge, it should help, if the change was needed and the prior settings were problematic. If the pressure was not the cause of whatever problems one was having, the pressure change will likely not help. I think others have tried to help you in the past. Did you walk through the steps suggested to make sure your settings are therapeutic? Doesn't make much sense to start in the middle of things with new suggestions without knowing which ones you've already tried and/or viewing your data. Can you catch us up to date where you are in this process?

No Julie, what is disgraceful is your recent mean-spirited posts in which you seem to have nothing but criticisms when replying to people. If you don't have anything helpful to add when responding to a post, don't reply.

KT-the biggest problem I have is still getting used to all the stuff on my face. I do not sleep well. I am getting 98s and 100s on res med. but many nights I find myself just laying in bed quietly. The numbers really mean nothing cause I am still so tired. Dr said pressure is fine--and if I want I can get rid of the beginning ramp pressure of 5. I am going to do that. Also a lot of congestion that no matter what I do cannot get rid of it. On going for me. Been to allergist--gave me a script to dry up mucus--but that had big problems too. Since I have allergies I may just have to live with being tired. Nothing new for me. I envy those here who claim they feel so good..and so quickly. TY for your interest.

Add to this my husband just started cpap and he is up and down all night and going through much trial and error. So everybody is restless in my house.

AMESS...until your sleep quality is improved without so many wake ups it doesn't really matter what your numbers are in terms of how you feel because fragmented sleep itself (even with ideal numbers) is going to make us feel like crap.

To those who are wanting to attack the messenger in this thread and not the message...
is it really necessary to be so blunt and hateful about what you perceive as a person's shortcomings?

How is that helping anyone?

TY pugs--i get it. Not sure of the answer other than to be patient with this cpap adventure and hope it will all go away.

As for those who for whatever reason dislike me--avoidance.
