Heated Hose

Post by seniorbiker » Wed Jun 28, 2017 8:30 pm

I just got a new Airsense 10..Can I use the heated hose that came with the machine as a regular hose with no heat or do I need to change off with my standard hose?

You can use the heated hose with no heat simply by going to Manual settings for the heated hose and then setting it to 0.
You can also do the same for the humidifier if you don't want added heat or added moisture.
The default is for both hose and humidifier is "automatic" but you can change it to manual if you wish.
You can add moisture or not and still have the heated hose not heating....may or may not get some rain out but cross that bridge if/when you come to it.

See the manual

Sure, but here's why I don't:
1) it's heavier than the SlimLine hose that came with my machine, and
2) <pessimism>it has a wire in it that could potentially break from metal fatigue,</pessimism> so I only use it when heat is needed.

I use the heated hose year round. I just turn the heat way down (64 degrees) in the summer and up during the winter (cold bedroom).
I use pretty much maximum humidity and this way my nose gets the same amount of humidity (machine keeps it constant) no matter what the hose temp is and I just adjust for comfort and/or rain out control. I don't normally have any condensation issues in the mask or hose unless it's winter and the house is cold.
I like a cold bedroom in the winter and my old house is hard to heat anyway.
Using the heated hose allows me to keep the humidity constant no matter when the season (keeps my nose happy) and I don't have to worry about adjusting for variation in ambient humidity.

Now if you aren't using any humidity at all...no real reason to use the heated hose unless you want warmer air.
But it will do what you asked about. You can use it and turn the heat off separately if you wish.

I thought the Airsense 10 came with BOTH hoses - have to admit I didn't notice the non-heated one at first but it was there, tucked away in a pocket in the bag ... are you sure that, like me, you haven't just missed it?

The machine did come with both hoses...I just wondered if I could use the heated hose year round of if I needed to change off.
