Another Hybrid fitting technique

Post by Sleepless_in_LM » Thu Nov 30, 2006 10:42 am

I thought I would share in case someone else is struggling. I love my new Hybrid, but I have struggled to get the fit right. I first learned on this sight that the "curve" is most important, so even though the size seemed wrong according to the Hybrid instructions, I moved down a notch to the medium face mask and it fixed all my mouthpiece leaks. But I have still struggled with the nasal pillows. I tried the rubber bands, dental floss, lotions... still had problems. I decided last night I was going to fix it no matter how long it took. After an hour fiddling with the mask, I realized maybe I was looking at the problem the wrong way. Maybe I needed to look at my nose. Being an old "taper", I grabbed some of my tape and placed a piece over the bridge of my nose, right near the nares. This changed the shape of nares slightly and allowed for a much better fit. I slept last night with no leaks and had one of my best nights sleep in a long time. Maybe I just have weird shaped nares , but I always used the swift with very few problems.

By the way, I use a tape called "Cover-Roll Stretch" that I got from our athletic trainer. Very breathable, great flexibility, good adhesive, and little residue left behind.

Good idea! I've tried putting a piece of tape on each side of my face to make my face fatter to help seal the mouth-piece corners. However, it didn't work. I may try your fix with the large pillows (I use medium) just for fun.

+ Aussie heated hose.

If you cant fix the nasal leaks with the Hybrid you could try removing the nasal pillows from the mask and place tape over the holes and use the hybrid as a oral mask. I never tried it but I don't see why it wouldn't work as a oral mask.

But then, wouldn't you have to get some kinda nose plug?

but on the other hand, the instructions that came with the oracle say to use nose plugs for two weeks and then you wont need them anymore.
I kinda doubt it but thats what the instructions say.

So could you leave the pillows in, seal them with the tape and use them as the nose plug?? Either way your looking to get a seal on the nares, right?

I think it would be much easier to seal the nose with plugs than pillows.

There is always a stapler or a pair of vice-grips

Seriously though ... surely there is something laying around your home that you can convert .... perhaps a cloths pin or one of those clips used for potatoe chip bags and some cotton padding?

Funny you should come up with that idea. It's great thinking. Sort of a fool proof breath rite strip, but lower?
Only my left pillow leaks and only if I fail to hang my mask off the edge of the pillow, but it is so seldone that I havent had to resort to any fixes, but I might try a breath rite strip just to see if solves my seldom leaking . Thanks
I luv my Hybrid. I have adopted my flexfit headgear and have the best sleep I have ever had.
