Fisher/Paykel Oral Mask
Fisher/Paykel Oral Mask
Is anyone using the oral mask? I am currently using Breeze Nasal Pillows and had a very uncomfortable night. I had a clogged nose and could not get enough air through my pillows. I finally resorted to just getting up! I don't want to have to depend on nasal sprays to unclog and have not found anything else that works well. I am compairing the full face mask vs the oral mask. Any input will be greatly appreciated. I have to buy some kind for a backup.
Thanks,
Gilda

Remember, if you choose to use the oralce mask, you MUST use a heated humidifier as the mask bypasses the functions of the nose.
It may be you have your mouth open with nasal mask and this is adding to your nasal congestion - try using chinstrap or taping mouth for a couple of nights to see if this makes a difference (make sure you put an edge to the tape if you use this). Humidifiocation will also help. A Full face mask is a better alternative to oral mask - not too many people can cope with an oral device and with a FFM it does not matter if you open your mouth. Humidification would be more comfy with all of the above.
Hmmmm.
What does it mean if I'm waking up with my mouth taped shut, and I didn't do it?

Oracle Mouth Mask
I know I am only a sample size of one, but here were my challenges using the oracle mouth mask:
1) it was harder to breathe out in general
2) it was hard not to breathe out my nose (the nose plugs kept popping out)
3) my cheeks would puff out and be sore
I am now going to try a full face mask starting tomorrow night.

Re: Fisher/Paykel Oral Mask
I"m starting on the oracle mask tonight. Nasal mask has caused sneezing and runny nose during the day since I've had it, 6 months. If I can't use the oral mask, just wondering how the full face mask worked out for you?
Next time you're at church or a party, look around and count the number of people over 65 that weigh 300 pounds. There won't be any. They're all dead.
Re: Fisher/Paykel Oral Mask
I have used the Oracle and I like it except for two things:
--the small insert is too large for me and I couldn't close my lips around it
--I had trouble swallowing and drooled a lot when using it
However, if they had a smaller size, I'd have gone for it as my permanent mask. I didn't find it harder to exhale or have trouble with nose breathing and my mouth didn't get overly dry. My cheeks did push out a bit, but they are "contained by the mask" if you allow the muscles to relax.
Before I tried the oral mask, I'd try the 431/432. I like the 432 best because of the big gray cushion inside the seal.

Re: Fisher/Paykel Oral Mask
OK, used (tried to) the oracle mouth mask last night. What a disaster. I have patience and understand giving different things a "chance", but I knew in 2 hours that there was just no way this was going to work, for too many reasons to list here. So, next I try a Full Face mask. Wish me luck.
