Marks on forehead

Post by C-Man » Sun Oct 29, 2006 9:10 pm

I have a ultra mirage full face mask and attached to the mask are two silicone cushions that apply pressure to your forehead after adjusting the top straps of the mask. I have been using this mask for over a year and lately I am getting these two red bumps on my forehead from the cushions. The bumps are raised and they hurt when touching them. They do not go away for at least 3-5 days. Does anybody know what might be happening or how to avoid this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

they are probably like pressure or bed sores developing. You need to loosen the top straps, you should be able to pull on the forehead piece and it should come away from your forehead at least by 1/8" or more.

there is some stuff you can put on it to help it heal think it is called Dermawound.

Moleskin, or Pad-A-Cheeks, will spread out the pressure on the affected areas, also don't strap up tighter than necessary. Jim

As 'Guest' stated, they sound like pressure sores to me. They are not to be taken lightly.

In addition to other suggestions, I would make a pad similar to those used for 'corns' on the toes. Your goal is to relieve the pressure at the site of the sore, so pad the area AROUND it, to absorb the pressure of the headgear.
I'm not familiar with your particular headgear, but hopefully it can be adjusted accordingly.

Keep a close eye on the sores. If they get worse or open, see your doctor right away, please.
I can only relate these to bed sores that I have seen, working as a nursing assistant, but a pressure sore is just that, regardless where it is.

I use the UMFF every night, and I cut a piece of moleskin to cover both pads on the forehead piece. This has been very helpful for me, and It usually lasts for a whole week.
I do wash my mask DAILY, but I only wash the forehead piece once a week, or the moleskin would never hold up.
Also- make sure you wash your entire face nightly.

I had the same reaction to my first mask that had similar "pads" on my forehead. My red bumps were very sore, then were infected and scabbing....definitely keep an eye on them..>I had to get a prescript to get my face to clear up and have since changed masks. The dr at the sleep lab thought maybe it was an allergic reaction. Just FYI
