Sores on the Nose

I am a long time sufferer recently diagnosed... 3 months ago. Had difficulty breathing on the CPAP so I had a septoplasty and turbinate reduction 6 weeks ago. A week ago I renewed CPAP and fairly quickly developed a couple of sores on the bridge of my nose. I washed the mask ( Miarage II ) to remove any chemical residue that may cause irritation and adjusted the mask. Since I don't breakout else where on my nose I wouldn't think it's an allergic reaction to the silicon.

Question : Is there any type of tape,etc. I could put on my nose to protect it and that would still allow a good seal ?

I also have a Swift which I thought would be my prefered choice. I was not able to use it initially due to soreness from the surgery but have tried it couple of times recently to give the nose bridge a break I found it not as quiet as the nasal mask and the next day my sinuses are a mess.

Question : Has anyone experienced the congestion issue with the Swift and found it to be louder ?

The bandaid blister strips can be put on your nose and might help. Krousseau uses them. You can also get moleskin and put it on the mask not your skin. You can get moleskin in the foot care section. Just put it where the mask is leaving sore spots.

I recently developed sores on my nose as well. On another post here someone recommended paper tape on the bridge of the nose. Works great for me, no more sores and the tape is easy to remove.

Open sores or tender areas? Any tender areas need pressure relief with something on the skin like the blister strips or the moleskin on the mask

Any open areas can become infected-if you can switch to another mask while they are healing-that is the best thing. I'd call the DME and talk to the RT about it-see if they can offer another mask. Don't have any idea if they would but it is worth a try. See a doc if any open sore increases in size or gets a red or hard area around it.

I had no open sores so more like tender areas,pre blister. I tried tape but unfortunately didn't work for me so I picked up the Band Aid for Blisters in several sizes (actually a neat little invention) and the moleskin as well ( never hard of the stuff and was concerned I was going to have search the front yard,capture one of the little dudes,and .... LOL! ) Also readjusted the mask again.. I may still have had to much pressure on that area.

My RT was no help.. that's another story too long for now.

Patience is a virtue and I've always wished I had some. Be careful what you wish for ....sleep apnea is providing the opportunity !
