cpap machines, software, and travel options,

Post by sleepyone » Mon Sep 04, 2006 1:01 pm

I know this is not a new topic. I am new to cpap (6 weeks about) I was given NO choice or information about machines, even the one I was sold by my doc. I asked about traveling and camping and was told that maybe I could buy a boat battery and hook up the machine... Now, I have found there are several machines available. I would appreciate any experience others have had with the following. Camping, when you do not drive a car x4hours a day to recharge the battery pack. How important are altitude adjustments, I do often camp over 9,000 ft. Can anyone suggest the best and most patient friendly software - are software interfaces downloadable, or do they come on a cd. I looked at the My Encore, or something like that for the Respironics machine and was confused by the system requirements, the machine looks and sounds good, how does it compare to the Everest or the Good Night travel model??? Thank you all so much

Most people here consider the Respironics Encore Pro software to be the leader. You have to have a Respironics XPAP that captures full data to use it.

MyEncore it a add in program that works with the Encore Pro Database, that provides another way to view the data. Respironics XPAPs can be powered from 12 Volt sources as long as the treatment pressure is 11 CM or under with the approved cable.

Most full featured XPAPs, have auto altitude adjustment built in. The software comes on CD. The Everest or the Good Night travel model, do not give data, one of the trade offs. If you can't carry the full size XPAP, maybe you should stay in with civilazation. A 12 volt XPAP, will function about three nights use on a large deep cycle battery, before recharging, using the battery with a 110V A/C power converter will give you less running time due to conversion losses. Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!
