How do you transfer your encore pro data between computers?

Post by dllfo » Sat Aug 26, 2006 1:56 pm

I have installed Encore Pro on two computers. I love back up systems.

But I can't figure out how to transfer my old data from my laptop to my desktop.

I also have not figured out which specific file my nightly breathing data is in.

I have a network at home, so I have tried transferring it that way. It did not work. I got my encore pro program running ok, but none of the old data transferred. Not even the patient's names.

Adult supervisions appreciated.....thanks

Yes I did try that, but I must be doing something wrong. If I am in my desktop and trying to import a file from my laptop, I click on importing and then I go to the C drive for the laptop. BUT my files are in Program Files and no access is allowed.

What did I miss?

I even copied all the files from that subdirectory, then put them into another sub directory. Thinking I could get into this new sub directory. I could get into it, but I did not seem to download anything. Now...I admit I am not operating at 100% due to meds, but what am I missing?

when i export

Post by wolftracker » Sat Aug 26, 2006 4:26 pm

i believe it is only one file ...
and i would move that file to

i believe it is one .xml file

ok experts ... i thought i was backing up my data
by exporting the file every two weeks and coping
it to a CD. Am I not saving all my data this way.

If not ... how do I save my data for a possible future
hard disk crash....

Importing Encore

Post by lferrel » Sat Aug 26, 2006 5:05 pm

Hi,

I have done it, and it is pretty simple. All you have to do is go to your sending computer, then select export data. It will ask you where you want to put the export file. Browse to the directory you want, and then click on okay. Let it do the export. Then go to your receiving computer. Select Import. It will ask you where to get the file. Go to where you put the file. Click on the file, click on okay. It will then import the data into your receiving computer.

That may not be the exact steps, but it is as close as I can remember it.

Good luck.

I tried exporting the data, that failed the hour glass never would stop, it was like a dog chasing it's tail. So I started clean on the other computer,

Also I enter the data I want to save into a excel file I made and will share freely via E-mail.

And in Reports you can save the file as a .pdf file and archive that. Jim

I tried it, didn't work that way. I highlighted a days info, right clicked and told it to move the data as an scv file.

I went to my desktop, thru the network, and found the folder I wanted the info in, but no info. It said it would save it as a csv file, but no data was there.

Exactly, specifically how did you do it please?

I have Ztree...some will remember Xtree Gold from DOS days. even with Ztree it is not cooperating.

Specific ideas?

Encore Pro uses an SQL server arrangement, even for a stand-alone computer. My limited understanding of it, trying to troubleshoot why it can no longer find the server and/or wants a UID-PW combination, is that there are many settings for access plus the usual network folder-sharing settings. I suspect recent Windows security updates may be involved.

So my amateur suggestion is to:
- ensure folder sharing is set up
- try to set up the database on one computer and point the other to it as the source of data. (As a big side benefit, hat would help avoid getting different versions of the data. It seems to me that data export is meant only for migrating to a new computer or perhaps simply to export for analysis in another program. (In my simple view, to migrate one should be able to just copy the files over.)

I am using encore pro 1.4 and moved files between computers a couple months ago - this is what I recall.

I first set up encore pro on the new computer.

I then did a file transfer to move the old file onto the new computer (networked computers so did a move as I moved a lot of files that night).

I then went into the new sql folder and changed the names of the new data files that encore pro created.

I then went into the transfered files, moved the ones that had been in the old sql folder on the old puter into the sql folder and changed their names to the names of the files that encore pro had created. I recall changing 2 files.

I then opened encore pro and IT WORKED.

Big Northerner and Guest, I will try your suggestions after I get back from my meeting with the tech who computed my wife's Titration.

This entire matter of transferring files makes no sense to me. I have probably moved, without exaggerating, a thousand or more files around in the last 15 years. Heck, counting business files, make that over ten thousand files.

Never had this exact problem before. Usually I can use ZTREE or windows to copy things.

If you are unfamiliar with ZTREE and are interested in a different way to move items, ..go to your favorite search engine and type in ZTREE. It will bring up ZTREE File Manager and ZTreeWin.

Anyway, back to file transfer...I have Encore Pro and MeEncore working on two computers. I installed Encore on a third computer I have at my desk so I can open the help file up while I try to move the files. Yes, I know Windows will do that, but some DOS habits are hard to break. Like turning the computer off used to mean pushing the off button.

Thanks again, I will take another look at it. I am probably doing something wrong.

I can't help with transfering the file, but I thought I lost all my data when I repartitioned the hard drive on my laptop & was moving files & programs all over. I went to uninstall some useless programs, got a little too click happy and accidentally uninstalled Encore Pro I was so relieved when it was reinstalled and all the data was still there-lol.
