Ear Aches?

Post by lawdognellie » Sat Aug 19, 2006 2:25 am

Does anyone elses have ear aches from the CPAP pressure? As the pressure starts to ramp up, my ears hurt (similar to when on an airplane). Also, I have the ramp, set at 4, but since the final pressure is 16 it begins ramping after 2 minutes. Now I can't get to sleep (even with sleeping pills).

Anyone have any advice?

I'm curious as to how long you've been on xpap? If not long, you may still be in the stage where your body is getting used to the therapy. 16 is a pretty high pressure and mine runs similar and sometimes even higher. I do feel it in my ears on occasion. Seems like it happens less over time? Minor ear irritation may just go with the territory at higher pressures, remember it's all connected inside your head. Anything other than minor popping or slight uncomfort and I'd talk to your doc to see if there is anything more going on.

If you are new to this, things should get easier for you as you get used to it.

When I go scuba diving the extra pressure of the water will cause earaches like you have descibed.
To get rid of the pain all I have to do is equalize the pressure by holding my nose and blowing gently until I feel my ears "pop".
Wouldn't hurt to give it a try.
Just don't blow too hard or you could look like this

I am new to the CPAP (2 mo), but I actually used to scuba and could never clear my ears. Also, it's kinda hard to hold your nose when you wear a nasal mask.
