AirStart 10 as a backup machine

Post by tedtomato » Sun Jan 01, 2017 4:32 pm

Hi,

I have a Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset as a main machine, and I am looking for a cheap backup/travel machine.

I am thinking about getting a Resmed Airstart 10 CPAP machine for $285.

My thinking:

* Most accessories will be compatible (e.g. humidifier, power supply, filters, slimline tubes etc)
* I don't really need detailed data or APAP if used for a short duration
* Resmed machines come in a nice padded carry case
* Hard to find any machine with humidifier for cheaper. There are cheaper machines without humidifier, but noisier and less advanced

Does anybody know what kind of data is actually displayed on the machine (e.g. AHI etc). I understand the machine only records compliance data on the SD card.

I am assuming that the form factor of the Airstart models is exactly the same as the Airsense models.

Thanks,
Ted

Why cheat yourself?
Cr@p happens--you could wind up using your "backup" for MONTHS, if not longer.

Well, I am not going to buy another AirSense 10 Autoset as a backup, as I pay full price for my machines (no insurance), and it costs $880...

As my main machine is new, I am unlikely to be without it for months. Worst case scenario will be a couple of weeks if the main machine fails in the next 3/4 years. Last issue I had with it was resolved by Resmed themselves on the same day (replacing the full machine). I can also go to the clinic that provided the machine to get replacement parts or loan machines.

There is very little information available on the AirStart 10, in term of what data is reported on the machine/displayed.

I am also considering the XT Fit CPAP Machine, which seems to be very small and cheap, but I am concerned about the noise people are reporting (particularly if it comes through the tube, and can't be removed while wearing earplugs).

The only thing I can see from the user manual is the Sleep Report gives you Usage Hours and a Smiley Face for the Humidifier Working. Which tells you very little. Here is a link to that manual. http://www.directhomemedical.com/machin ... -guide.pdf
