Sleepyhead and new computer

Post by kteague » Fri Nov 04, 2016 7:42 pm

What is the simplest way to get Sleepyhead on my new laptop - start over from scratch or somehow transfer files? Operative word here is "simplest".

Which version of SleepyHead and what is the operating system on the new computer?
Do you want the old data for any reason?

The "simplest" way is to just install SleepyHead and just start over, but then you won't have the data.

If you want to keep the data as well, I would do the following:

On the OLD computer, find the SleepyHeadData folder that usually lives in the Documents folder in your home folder.

Transfer that particular folder and all of its contents to the new computer.

Then install the current version of Sleepyhead on the new computer. The new copy of SH should find and use the transfered SleepyHeadData folder and should open up with all your data intact.

to expand on robysue's comment a little, I'd suggest running SH on the old computer, on the first screen where it asks you to pick a user, it should tell you, on the bottom of that window, where the data directory is.

zip that whole thing up into a zip file, then copy that over to the new computer, and unzip it to the same place.... then run SH there, it should find all your data. you know where to find me if you've got more questions

A new computer with a newly installed version of SleepyHead with no data should load all the data on the SD card!

D.H.,

The OP, kteague, has been PAPing for about 10 years and she has been using an S9 AutoSet for a number of years. She has several years of SH data on her current computer. She has recently bought a new computer, and her question is whether there is an easy way to transfer *all* of her SleepyHead data to the new computer or whether she should just start over and not worry about transferring the old data to the new computer.

As I and PR have both indicated, it is not hard to move the SleepyHeadData folder to the new machine where a brand new copy of SH should be able to find it. In other words, kteague should be able to transfer all of her existing data to the new computer with little or no problem.

One of the little "negatives" about the S9...they chose to overwrite the files on a SD card instead of leaving them alone like Respironics did. Whoever came up with that brainstorm should have his knuckles rapped hard.
There's plenty of room on the SD card...so now the bulk of it sits empty.
At least apparently with the AirSense/Curve machines they stopped overwriting the files...at least that is what I seemed to understand.

they did. I've seen months of full data off of a air10 card.

I thought that was what I remembered someone saying.
Makes me want the AirCurve even more I hate it when I do my download and I am missing weeks of detailed data because I am so lazy. I just keep putting it off and putting it off and before long I am at a month or two or more between downloads...but then not much ever changes so I don't miss much.

Thanks everyone for your input. Will tackle this soon. I don't think I care about old data, but I may change my mind by the time I do it.
I guess my "cadillac" machine that I was so proud of must be too old already to show up in the profile. Anyhow, these days I'm using an S9 VPAP S Bi-level. I believe my my new Acer "world's thinnest laptop" that I was gifted this week has Windows 10 OS. Does that change any advice? I apologize for not giving more info initially.

If you don't think you want the old data you can start fresh.
If you change your mind you can always go get it later. It's not something that just has to be done right now.
If you do decide you want to and need step by step instructions I have Windows 10 computer and can give you step by step.

You would still have the old graphs on the old computer anyway and with the new computer you would lose some of the old graphs but if they aren't important to you it doesn't matter.

When I finally move to my brand new laptop I won't be bothering with the old data. I will just start fresh and go get the old data if I need to. Heck, I rarely look at the graphs anyway...right now it's been over a months since last download so I have already lost some graphs.
