Can graph show REM sleep?
Can graph show REM sleep?
Based on the graph, is there a way to tell the difference between REM sleep and other stages? I think I read another post where it said during REM sleep , the pressure tends to rise. Is that true? Do spikes in pressure indicate REM sleep and how long you are in REM sleep. Thx!

Re: Can graph show REM sleep?
REM can only be approximated from data from your machine. How well is debatable.
Some activity monitors will do a better job, but the best measure relies on an EEG and/or eye movement sensors.

Re: Can graph show REM sleep?
No, you can't tell by the pressure changes for sure...you can guesstimate though along with knowing when REM normally occurs.
While it's common for some people to need more pressure in REM...it's not something that is an absolute given.
Plus there's supine sleeping which can also affect pressure needs.
Google "sleep stage" and take a look at the hypnograms to see when REM normally occurs and you can get sort of an idea when REM is likely to happen assuming your sleep cycles are close to normal.
So you can get sort of an idea when REM is happening but to know for sure....can't tell with the information available from the machine.
The spikes in pressure that look like a saw tooth pattern...those are test pressure probes and totally unrelated to any sleep stage at all.

Re: Can graph show REM sleep?
the spikes in the pressure are a weird effect of the respironics behavior, it thinks you're sleeping peacefully, so it starts poking at you "you look like you're doing good, is this better? no?" then a bit later, "you look like you're doing good, is this better? no?" all night long, *UNTIL you're NOT sleeping peacefully... then it quits trying to make things better.andy2016 wrote: Do spikes in pressure indicate REM sleep and how long you are in REM sleep.
people have attempted to explain how this makes sense, but, I don't see it.
as to rem stages, I've got a bedside zeo I'm looking to sell (having picked up a different one) that'll give you pretty good sleep stage info:
