Please help newbie making 2nd attempt!

Post by RichCee » Tue Jul 05, 2016 6:38 pm

Hi everyone! After trying unsuccessfully to start CPAP therapy about five years ago, I am making a second attempt. I am impressed with how the technology has evolved - the AirSense 10 machine I am using is much quieter than I expected, and the P10 nasal pillow mask is more comfortable that I had hoped. I was excited when my first few nights all scored 95+ on the ResMed myAir website....and then I downloaded Sleepyhead! At that point, I realized just how much more data was available, and saw that I will need to work to get my AHI down to a good level.

I read through a lot of great posts on the site today and was impressed with how knowledgeable many of the members are. So I'd love to get any feedback at all on the SH dailies from my first four sessions. To my barely educated eye, it looks like the Clear Airway events are a big part of the problem. Perhaps my upper pressure can come down a bit from 16, and the lower pressure can come up a bit to 7? I'm thankful for any thoughts and help!

(I'm also using imgur for the first time, so here's hoping it comes through ok!)

I can't help since, like you, I am a 2nd attempt newbie but I'm anxious to see the responses here. The technology has changed so much!!! Figured I was going to have to just suck it up but looks like there are lots of options to help. Good luck!

Your Median pressure seems to avg. about 9.5, so raising the minimum up to 7 is still going to be below what the machine is operating at most of the night. I would try 8 for a few nights as a minimum.

Thanks for the link Palerider, I am re-posting these SH views in what should be the required format. If they are too small, please let me know and I will try again.

don't post again go and EDIT (large button at top of post) this post... but next time, after picking the large thumbnail, select the 'linked bbcode' entry, that'll give you a nice small thumbnail, but a click through to the full size pic..

also, you've still got pressure in there twice.

I'd suggest raising your minimum pressure by at least 2cm, and see if that settles things down a bit.

the edited first post works quite well, nicely done.

next time you do a screenshot, pull the 'time at pressure' graph up instead of the mask pressure one... pressure and mask pressure are redundant with each other, but the TaP graph gives some extra info.

The max pressure is set at 16 now, do you think I should bring that down a little too (maybe reducing CA?)

I would focus on slowly raising the minimum enough to prevent most of the obstructive events from happening.
If the high pressure bothers you, try lowering it 1 cm.

most of the time, max pressure takes care of itself, like driving a on the highway, obeying the speed limit, car might do 100, or 150, or 200, but you being a law abiding citizen, will never hit those speeds..

unless there are fairly rare problems, auto paps and max pressure are like that.

I bumped up the lower end of the pressure by 2cm last night (to a range of 8-16). Slept ok until about 5am and then found it hard to get back to sleep. I don't think that was related to the increased pressure, maybe just a fluke. CA came down from the prior night, hoping that is still just my body adjusting after < 1 week. Obstructive has been > 4 the last two nights - the machine is responding, but I am not sure how to drive that down farther.

Still appreciate any insights as I try to make a more permanent go of this! Hopefully the image below works ok - you can click thru for a larger size. And as palerider requested, I have pulled up the Time at pressure chart to be visible as well.
