Had a MSLT yesterday

Post by K8TEK » Wed Jun 08, 2016 6:58 am

First of all, let me say that after my MSLT yesterday, I have been incredibly tired.

I have been a CPAP user since 2006 and needed a new tiration study and a MSLT to check daytime sleepiness.

During my MSLT, I was able to fall asleep within 10 minutes on all 5 tests. I don't remember dreaming, but I do know I fell asleep every time.

What exactly does that mean? Idiopathic Hypersomnia?

Why not wait for results of the test? We're not doctors and have no access to your history. You could have hypersomnia, but you could also have other problems that caused you to fall asleep at the time and all we can do is guess... I wouldn't want to self diagnose based on guesses.

If that is the diagnosis you were given, it means they have no idea why you have daytime sleepiness. As an FYI, I have that diagnosis too in addition to sleep apnea.

Standard treatment is usually a med like Provigil. Many people swear by it but all it did in my case was cause agitation even at a very low dose.

Good luck.

Did they actually give you your results already, or are you just saying you know you fell asleep each nap? Results aren't usually ready immediately after the test. Along with how many naps you fell asleep and how soon, they also look at how many of those naps you had REM sleep. Even then, those results are compared to your sleep the night before to make sure the results aren't skewed by sleep deprivation. If your sleep apnea wasn't fully treated at prior settings, you could be just sleepy. The report should take all factors into consideration before coming to a conclusion. Let us know how this works out. I've had some MSLT tests before that left me with questions so I'm curious.
