Bubble breathing

Post by Mr Snuffy » Sat Apr 30, 2016 6:28 pm

I keep waking up when my lips pop out and a bubble of air pops out.

Is there any way to stop this? I don't have it every night and chin strap does not help. I don't mouth breath other than these bubbles that wake me

I would try a piece of 3M Micropore tape from middle of your top lip to below your lower lip. It's much easier to try than a full face mask.

I experience the same thing...usually early in the morning and it wakes me up. I'm using a mask that covers my nose only when that occurs. (I have a full face mask that works better but it caused some irritation on my nose so I'm taking a break from it and I've ordered a different design to try). I can't get back to sleep once the bubble breathing starts. It's not from mouth breathing. Air just pushes between my lips. My mouth is fully closed. Seems that there is just too much pressure in my mouth for the air to be exhaled normally through my nose so it "bubbles" out. Annoying. I really like the nose only mask but the "bubble" thing keeps me from using it all the time. An odd thing is that I do not mouth breath when using the nose only mask but I do mouth breath when using the full face mask. Perhaps that mouth breathing prevents the "bubble".

I'm 6 weeks into my CPAP therapy and found the same happening to me.
Someone recommended a soft cervical collar to mitigate that and it has worked for me in the 3 weeks I've worn the collar.
