When Should I replace a CPAP Unit?

Post by Laos Film Director » Thu Mar 31, 2016 10:51 pm

Background info:

I have a four and one-half year old ResMed S9 auto. I currently have Blue Shield HMO coverage which isn't very good. I haven't checked what they'll pay towards a new unit but their co-pay is usually pretty high on CPAP supplies. I'll have Blue Shield as long as I continue to work which is another year or so. Medicare Part A starts in June but I don't think Part A alone covers new CPAP units. I travel internationally and I am afraid my CPAP will stop working since it is getting old.

Question: When do you suggest I replace the S9? I'll have Medicare A and B in one year. Should I wait a year assuming Medicare A and B will provide a new machine? Will Medicare replace a machine just because it is old?

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. I know I want my new unit to be a high end machine. Maybe even another S9 since it still seems to be one of the better machines out there according to posters here.

Most/many of us advocate having at least one or more spare/backup machines. That way the user has a "buffer" for WHEN "Murphy's Laws" decide to go into effect.
Many machines have been for sale on the forum......new, slightly uses.......or from http://www.secondwindcpap.com
