Accidentally put mineral water in my CPAP

Post by OSAdude76 » Fri Mar 11, 2016 10:26 am

so I arrived late at my hotel and totally forgot to get water for my CPAP. In my tired haze I used the bottle of water in my room completely unaware that they added minerals to it. The next morning I could see the mineral residue at the bottom of my tank and now I'm worried that this damaged my machine. I plan on cleaning the tank and hose when I get home, but could the mineral build up damage anything?

Is tap water better than purified mineral water? I'm guessing something like Aquafina is best if distilled water isn't available. I also could just sleep without water, but the one time I did that I woke up every hour or so with a very dry mouth.

    Thank you!

No big deal... just rinse it out when practical and get some distilled water when available. It's not like you'll get stalactites in your throat. Maybe just some residue in your tank which you can clean out with a thick salt slurry Search the forum for 'salt trick'.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Just rinse it out and when you get home give it a good cleaning. If you can't get distilled water where you are, just use bottled drinking or tap water, not a problem for a short time. I use bottled when I am away from home and staying in a hotel or with relatives, no sense in dragging a big container of distilled with you.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

I get the same thing from my tap water, extremely hard water and I can see the crust after one night using it. A little white vinegar & water will clear it right up.

Probably better than tap water which may have enough residual chlorine in it to be annoying when you are hooked up to the machine.

I went through an entire gallon of RO water.
Free, and they SAID it was OK for my cpap.
(Yeah, unless the chalky film is not a thing I like)
Hot water and Dawn clear got it all out with NO SCRUBBING.

Thank you all for the replies! That is a relief I am home and cleaned it out with warm water/vinegar. It appears to have gotten all the stuff out (and hopefully some of the germs from traveling).
