AHI fluctuation

Post by 1jnd » Mon Feb 29, 2016 10:37 am

Been having success over the last 2 weeks with AHI under 2 consistently. Last night I slept well with the mask on for 10 hours. AHI was 5. What gives? BTW, impossible for me to login today under my ordinary username.

To quote Pugsy, who no longer participates here: Aliens visited you last night and messed up your sleep.

More seriously: We all have the bad AHI night now and then. As long as the bad nights are rare and occasional, it's best not to get worked up about them. If the data returns to normal tonight, don't worry about the bad night. If you get a string of bad nights in a row, then it's time to start considering what might be causing them.

Looking at the detailed data is the best thing when you want to determine why there is a change in the long term stats. Possible causes for a few bad days in a row range from serious (the OSA is worsening and you may need more pressure) to the not so serious (you're fighting the flu or a headcold and with the additional congestion and achyness comes a temporary worsening of the OSA that returns to normal as you get over the illness.)

Sometimes there's no plausible explanation for one bad night in a slew of good nights. Hence Pugsy's Aliens.

Don't know what to do about this right off hand.

Hard to say without looking at your CPAP software results... could be a mask leak, too low pressure, a big glob of phlegm... who knows? Sign up and register, then list your mask and machine etc. Finally, take the steps below to get your free Sleepyhead software downloaded and then post images on Imgur:

First: Here’s the link on where to get free Sleepyhead software:
http://www.sleepfiles.com/SH2/?TestingVersions
If you like Sleepyhead and use it, please try to donate to Mark for his great work… the ‘donate’ link/button is about halfway down this page.

Here, in order, are the three excellent links that graphically show you how to get the correctly sized Sleepyhead images to show up in your CPAPtalk post:

Don’t worry if you blow it the first time… most of us did!

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
