FFM does not stop dry mouth Help

ResMed Air sense 10---- FFM Here is the problem was put on this for mouth breathing. Have tried almost every thing I can think of but dry mouth still wakes me yuck. I was told to put hose on auto and machine on auto and that would give me more moisture but it did not woke me with too much warm air ran temp up on hose to 81 when I checked and shut it off. What I am experiencing is for moisture the machine gives out warm air. Warm air is tough on me sleeping. Would seem to me that they should have a machine that would sense need for moisture if you mouth breath and give it to you enough so you do not wake up with dry mouth. Now I have tried it all chin strap, tape and still end up with dry mouth beginning to think maybe this machine has a problem. Any one else had these problems and got them solved I sure would appreciate knowing what worked for you. There is a balance between too cool air and too warm air that I need to find if it is possible. I even went to another supplier and ask about another mask but they told me with weather changing here in the south it was hard to keep up with moisture changes at least they were honest in that I had a good mask.

Dry mouth has nothing to do with the machine. If chin straps or tape doesn't work, you may have to get used to it.

Sorry, but wrong Sheriff... dry mouth is also very bad for your teeth and I know from personal experience.

If nothing else works, then try Orajel dry mouth moisturizer:

Use as directed. A tube lasts me a month.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

You have a choice...Turn your humidifier off but leave water in the humidifier. That will cause room temperature air to pass over the water and provide you with cool moist air...or...turn on the humidifier and get heated moist air. Your machine does not have a problem. There is no machine that can sense a dry mouth.

Dry mouth can be rough on your teeth. My dentist has stated that's probably why I have so many cavities. I have dry mouth from using cpap plus some of the meds I'm taking. Biotene really does nothing for me. I never heard of Orajel for dry mouths before I read about it here a few weeks ago and plan to give that a try.

You can get dry mouth with or without a FF mask, as a FF mask doesn't do anything to keep your mouth shut. (Unless there's one that does that I don't know about.) I believe the purpose of the FF mask for people who open their mouths is mainly so they don't lose therapy. If you open your mouth not wearing a FF or hybrid-type mask, part of air that's supposed to keep your throat open goes out of your mouth and into the room instead of down your throat. I can have the machine humidifier cranked up to 5 and still have dry mouth because I keep it open so much! I don't like that much humidity, though, so I usually keep it at about 3.

Some suggestions I've read on here for people with or without a FF mask are a chin strap, or a foam cervical collar, or fully or partially taping the mouth. I'm getting ready to try a foam cervical collar and Orajel combo. I use the Innomed Hybrid mask that has that little chin flap that I'm guessing is supposed to help with the opening-mouth problem. But I get too many leaks with it on there so I have to cut it off.

Since I started using a cervical collar while sleeping, I haven't had any problems with dry mouth. The collar keeps my mouth closed and I no longer breath through my mouth at night.

As has already been mentioned........turn the humidifier settings down or off.
Do nasal cleansing before bedtime so you can breathe through your nose. Warm, moist air can cause nasal congestion.
If you don't have a heated hose, route the hose under the covers next to your body so it won't be cold.

On cervical collar what is the best kind to use and do they make it hard to sleep with that around your neck?? Seems to me that it would make your neck hot more in summer than winter. How about neck issues does it effect your neck I have bone spurs in mine. Any help appreciated. Larry

I bought mine at CVS. It is adjustable so the front part that goes under your chin can be adjusted from 3 1/2 inches to 5 inches. I haven't tried during the summer, yet. I have been using it for about two weeks and really like it.
