Re: Very sore tongue
Did you bite it?
CPAP is not known to cause sore tongue.

Re: Very sore tongue
When I sleep on my side I have had the edge of my tongue sore. I think I relax and my tongue falls between my teeth and I bite it without my knowing it. I haven't had it in some time. If it is on the edge of the tongue a mouth guard might help.

I have on occasion felt the same thing in the morning but it goes away in a few hours. I'm thinking it may be from dry mouth, tho I'm not sure. Are you a mouth breather? If so, keep water handy so you can take a sip.Denise wrote:I'm a cpap user with a humidifier attached to it ,but my tongue is so sore I can't eat or drink it's so painful, can anyone help me with any suggestions please ???

You need to see a doctor and you need to think very hard about what you might have eaten or drunk before the problem arose... not everything's about Cpap.

If you use a nasal mask and you are getting a very dry mouth then you are losing therapy air through your mouth and you need a full face mask. A bit more information about what you are using will help us a lot.

I'm sorry you're having tongue problems. Not sure how long you've been using the CPAP, but it probably isn't the source of your problems.
I had a similar problem when I started CPAP, but it had to do with my liver, a lack of oxygen when sleeping and elevated liver enzymes. My tongue was a wreck when I first started CPAP - coated, cracked down the middle and very sore down both sides. I was seeing a specialist and test were showing that my liver enzymes were crazy. I was not doing well and on top of it, very drained from the sleep apnea. Watching my diet - eating even when I really didn't want to and eating nutrient dense calories - kale salads with chia seeds (lots of fiber) really helped. My tongue slowly got better as my liver stabilized.
The tongue is a very reliable indicator of liver health, so maybe having your enzymes checked and talking to your doctor is worth a shot.
I hope you get the help you need and are feeling well again soon.
Kind regards,
GB
Re: Very sore tongue
I second the suggestion to see a doctor.
Do you take inhaled steroids for lung problems (asthma, COPD)? You might have thrush, a yeast infection that steroids can be part of.
There are many other things it can be, but except for exceptional dryness if you breathe through your mouth, none of them are likely to be caused by CPAP.
You should see a doctor to get a definitive diagnosis.
