Poll: What type of mask do you use?
Poll: What type of mask do you use?
I am curious what percentage of people use the different types of masks. We are all different and what works well for one can be horrible for another. Nasal pillows work the best for my high pressure needs. How about you?
I have changed the poll choices to match the mask types available on cpap.com. You can see pictures of the different mask types here: https://www.cpap.com/cpap-masks.php

you need more options on your poll.yaconsult wrote:I am curious what percentage of people use the different types of masks. We are all different and what works well for one can be horrible for another. Nasal pillows work the best for my high pressure needs. How about you?
total face, oral, hybrid are three more that come to mind.

Thanks! I have added options for all of the mask types on cpap.com. Unfortunately, that resets the poll so the few people who had already voted will need to vote again.palerider wrote:you need more options on your poll.yaconsult wrote:I am curious what percentage of people use the different types of masks. I voted....
That total face mask thing looks all types of crazy. Any leaks I have dry my contacts out. I couldn't imagine wearing a mask that blows air into my eyes......

The total face mask looks worse than it really is when you use it. I use a nasal pillow, but the totale face is useful when you have the flu and the like.ElvishKnight wrote: That total face mask thing looks all types of crazy. Any leaks I have dry my contacts out. Because they are so different, the cloth masks should have their own category.

yaconsult let me say this poll is really interesting, thank you!
it's good to see that nasal pillows are the most used. I used FFM for over an year, getting worser and worser, then I switched to the nasal pillow since almost an year and it's great!

Addressing the total face masks; some people with facial pain or lesions from other masks find
total face masks may be the only solution.
Since there is no pressure on, in, or around the nose, some feel less "confined".
They also are a possible alternative to punctal plugs for folks with airflow through tear drainage ducts.

Re: Poll: What type of mask do you use?
Thanks! I didn't even realize how many different mask types there were until palerider pointed out to me that I was missing some. I wish there was some way that people could try all the different types at a reasonable price! Maybe a kit with an assortment that could be rented, returned, and then sanitized for the next user? I would love to try some of the other types but they are just too expensive to buy one of each. I am just happy that I found nasal pillows as the regular nasal masks didn't work well at my high pressures.matrello wrote:yaconsult let me say this poll is really interesting, thank you!

It makes sense that it would be much easier to get a better seal over the much smaller contact area of the nasal pillows versus the regular nasal mask. That damn thing was always leaking somewhere unless you tightened it up so much and then had other problems. I suspect that mask problems are probably the biggest reason that people quit using the cpap that they so desperately need.

Re: Poll: What type of mask do you use?
I guess I'll have to do a little research, I have never heard of a total face mask.
Oh wow I just looked at one. I bet it would be hard to be a side or stomach sleeper with one of those babies.
God Bless you folk.

Re: Poll: What type of mask do you use?
I alternate between my Wisp nasal and Simplus full face trying to get comfortable. I have a Quattro air as well that I can't get to seal with the M or L cushion. I've been on a machine about 2 months but only slept decent for a couple weeks. I usually only get about an hour a night in lately.

I've been using a Respironics True Blue from the beginning. It's the same mask the tech put on me and I love it. Very rarely do I notice it through the night. I've never had any issue with slipping or leaking and the air exhausting out from the elbow joint is super quiet. I'll keep using this mask as long as they're available.

Re: Poll: What type of mask do you use?
I have come to hate my simplus mask, I just find it leaks past a pressure of 10 and is claustrophobic. I always thought I was a mouth breather so didn't bother opening the packet the sleep people gave me containing the Eson nasal mask but tried it one night and it became my full time mask. I have a checkup Thurs and last time I was told about nasal pillows so will ask to try them.
I'm hoping they will stop the noise I seem to get with a wet eson filter due to rainout but am concerned the water will go direct up my nose instead!
I found it so strange that I used to sleep breathing thru my mouth and yet it seems to stop with a nasal mask.
