Sleep lab moved to tonight (titration for c-pap)
Sleep lab moved to tonight (titration for c-pap)
I got a call this morning from the sleep doctor's office. They had a cancellation for tonight and it moves up my
appointment by 12 days!
This is the titration appointment. I was diagnosed with obstructive severe sleep apnea in my original sleepover. I only had like
90 minutes of sleep but had an RDI of 101.9 and an AHI of 101.3. spent 39.6 minutes below 90% oxygen saturation with
a low of 66%. Arousal index of 83.2.
I don't know what those numbers mean totally but the Dr. explained they were all high to alarming.
So tonight is C PAP Titration.
What can I can expect?

You can expect the same thing as the first test, but you will be wearing a mask and the technician will be adjusting the pressure throughout the night. You will have a chance to try different masks before going to sleep.
They may come in during the night and adjust or change masks ... if the one you are using is leaking.

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Thanks for the reply...How does one usually pick a mask? Just individual preference?

Re: Sleep lab moved to tonight (titration for c-pap)
Initially they put different masks on and I picked a nasal mask which I used for the titration. After choosing the mask they turned on the flow and I complained that it was hard to exhale. That may be why I was Rx'd a bilevel machine. I have to say my lab was comfortable and I slept soundly thru the titration without being aware of the changing pressures. They did ask me at one time to ask me to turn on my back but I didn't last long there as I normally sleep on my stomach.

Knowing what I know now (hind sight is great) I would have requested a nasal pillow mask and a chin strap and some tape

The only thing I would recommend is bring a good set of ear plugs.
The constant up and down whirring of the machine ruined my titration and I only got about 45 minutes of sleep so they kind of guessed at my pressure which was a huge mistake in the long run.
The machine noise kept me up as I'm used to total quiet at home.
Of course if you can sleep through thunderstorms and trains going by then ear plugs won't be an issue with you.
I also agree with grey ghost. Chin strap would have been nice since my mouth drops open on occasion
If I would have only known this stuff up front it would have saved me a couple extra sleep studies!!

Right, I didn't have a clue what mask to choose because at that time I was still in denial and knew nothing. I just wanted the least on my face. But I am glad they didn't make me start out with a FF mask. I'm sure if I was mouth breathing they would have come in and made me change.
