I am a side sleeping, mouth breather (necessitated by allergies) and have been successfully using a ResMed Escape II EPR and H4i heated humidifier with home made hose "sock" for nearly four years now. My most satisfactory mask is and has been the large Quattro FX. I am not a terribly sensitive user/sleeper and have learned to live with some leaks and rain-out issues. My biggest gripe is that the mask's exhaust is directly out and away from its front, which means I must sleep with my back to my wife and always on the same side. Even after 35 years of marriage we still like each other, enjoy being close and find a standard full size bed to our liking. I, however, do not like having to always sleep with my back to her and the message I feel like it sends nor not being able to switch the side I am sleeping on.
With all that background and history being said, I'm looking for some first hand advice on the feasibility of switching from the Large Quattro FX to a Large Airfit F10 - which appears to have its exhaust diffused in a circular profile.
Specifically:
1. Can I expect the cushion fit to be the same or nearly so?
2. Will this effectively solve (help) my exhaust airflow problem?
3. Are there better options?
Some timely advice would be greatly appreciated since I have my annual appointment with my sleep specialist this next Thursday.

Re: Quattro FX large to Airfit F10 change?
Hello and welcome aboard. I have both the Quattro FX and the AirFit F10. Everyone is different but from my experience with these masks i had better luck with the F10. I'm a side sleeper also and the F10 was more confortable with my head against the pillow than the FX but from what i encountered they both leaked into my eyes. Also, the air venting out made it a challange to find a position against the pillow where it was tolerable. What ended up working for me was the AirFit P10 nasal pillow. The air vent is extremely quiet and not a blast coming out like most masks... I can hold my hand 2-3 inches away from the vent and not feel air. The only downside... since your a mouth breather you'll need to find a way to keep that from happening. Hope that helps... good luck.

I have an F10, and am a side sleeper, and my husband has no problem getting right up close. When I'm kept awake by his snoring I'm wishing he was a little further back. One thing that I did find is that I needed a smaller pillow. We used to use king sized pillows on a queen sized bed, but I went back to a standard size pillow because I need to sleep on the edge of the pillow to keep the mask in place. I have thought about trying a square pillow, so that when I'm facing the middle of the bed I am a couple inches closer to the edge. Several people here have bought cheap foam pillows and carved them up to make cpap pillows, and that's an option, as well as buying a specially-made cpap pillow. But, anyway, I have found that when I need to manage a full-face mask with a wide pillow, I turn into a bed hog when facing towards the middle of the bed, and it's because I was using a pillow that was too wide.
I think that the air blowing out of the F10 is pretty gentle and diffuse. My hands will get cold if they are right up there next to the mask, but hubby doesn't get that close. It really depends on how sensitive your wife is, though. I know that if I slept on the same side all night I wouldn't be able to walk the next morning!

I use both the large QFX and the large F10. I think you will find the exhaust of the F10 to be very compatable with facing in the direction of your wife. It doesn't blow out front at all. The F10 is slightly narrower than the QFX. I don't have leaking issues with either mask. I also use mask liners to prevent leaks.
I alternate between the two because each rides on my nose bridge a little differently and I like giving each spot on my nose a break every couple of weeks or so. If you "like" one then you should do well with the other. Once you learn how to wear one without leaks, then the other should fit just like it.
I tried the F10 through my DME with a 30 exchange policy if I couldn't make it work. It worked like a charm right away.

Re: Quattro FX large to Airfit F10 change?
I love my F10 and was totally thrilled to retire my problematic Quattro FX FFM. The Airfit F10 is a HUGE leap forward from my experience (six months now!). I almost never get leaks anymore, plus no mask irritation.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
