After reading many posts, I think I must be the only person for whom a chin strap actually works! I tried the denture strips, and even a FF mask with limited success. (The denture strips started out working great, but then I kept having problems).
One day, my CPAP stopped working, so I went to my DME to exchange it. While there he asked how things were going, and I mentioned mouth breathing. He gave me a chin strap and told me to give it a try.
Now, I use the active nasal mask and a chin strap and I'm all set. No mouth breathing at all. the only problem is that my DME gave me a real cheapo chin strap - single strap - not split) and so keeping it on through the night was a challenge. I would up weaving it in and out of the activa's velcro straps for an effective (but extremely unattractive) hold. Now I just need to get a better chin strap and I'll be all set.
Chin Strap works for me
I recommend the Tiara only because it looks like it would work great. I have the single chin strap that your DME uses. I have to decide tomorrow whether or not to buy or rent my APAP machine and the majority of me wants to buy it but if the darn thing breaks then I won't have anything at all. Maybe my DME will take pity on me and get it fixed for me at no extra cost (if that ever occurs.) The Tiara comes in many colors with Red being the cheapest, or so I saw on the web. I think I'll probably go with a darker color myself.
I too have no problem other than slightly squished ears with my chin strap and virtually zero mouth breathing. I can't say that for sure though. I don't have anyone monitoring me at night. Every once in awhile my wife will notice something such as the original problem She's a life saver.
