Finding the right mask

Post by MissSax » Thu Apr 30, 2015 7:15 am

So I am coming to the conclusion that I have a weird shaped face... the small mask is too small and the medium is a big too small but the large is too big... I have tried two different masks now and I don't feel as though either of them work so well. The first one was too big and it made my eyes swell and become blood shot.. this mask I have now I feel like it is too small and that air is not doing what it should.

I am sure this has been discussed before.. but seeing as I am a newbie.. how did you go about finding the right mask?

All tips are welcome! Thank you!

MissSax,

It would help us know which mask(s) you have tried. And which style of mask you are using. And whether you have any desire to switch mask types.

Unfortunately, the sizes of masks are limited, but the sizes of faces are not. And the mask sizes are not standardized---even if you stick to the same brand of mask.

In general mask shopping is kind of like shoe shopping---if your feet are really picky about your shoes. It helps to try them on. Some DMEs are more amenable to this than others are. But that's really the starting point: Call the DME and tell them the new mask is not working any better than the old one. And that you need to be able to try on several masks before choosing the next one to try. And try them on with your full pressure setting if at all possible. And try them lying down if at all possible. That may require bringing in your own mat and lying down on the floor.
