Air pressure sometimes too high.....

Post by ElvishKnight » Thu Feb 12, 2015 6:16 pm

I had a sleep study 7 years ago. My prescription pressure is 12. I weigh probably 50 to 100 pounds more than i did 7 years ago. I have a Autoset cpap machine. I will awake sometimes to it blowing at 13/14 and its so hard it blows my full face mask off.... making flapping sounds and squealing noises. I have to shut the machine off and turn it back on to reset it and try and lay back down.

Well, set your minimum and maximum to 12 cm. and it won't do that.

Except a setting Rx'd 7 years ago and at 50 to 100 lbs less might not be what is needed now. Unless you are able to monitor your pressures and see why the machine is increasing, a new sleep study and new machine might be helpful.

As sufferers of Sleep Apnea are we supposed to go in for a sleep study every so often?

I haven't seen my sleep doctor or had a sleep study in 10 years (next month). Most of us figure that if we have data-capable machines and monitor our therapy with software, unless there's something really weird going on, we don't need to give them any more money.

Yeah if I Ever get insurance I for sure need to get a data collecting machine and or learn how to do all of that.

How do you know? You can easily monitor and adjust therapy on a single pressure machine (or settings).
I was considerably heavier when I had my sleep study in 2005 and several things happened. First, I didn't "need" the high pressure I was prescribed (18 cm.), so I reset my machine to 10 cm. to try to get used to the therapy......then found out that 10 cm. was about right, but finally increased it a couple more centimeters in 2006 and have been at 12 cm. ever since.
I rarely ever go over 1.0 for an AHI in a single night and my yearly averages are consistently below 0.5.
I've also found out over the years (by using straight pressure) that at certain times of the year my AHI fluctuates a bit and is slightly higher at times and lower at other times.

The machine you have in your profile (S8 Autoset II) is fully data capable. You should be able to see lots of info in the LCD and if you were to use ResScan and be able to pull the data from the machine, you'd see more.

you have a *mask fit* issue, not a *pressure* issue.

get some mask liners to tame the leaks.

if you don't know what those are, then search for it in the search bar up there....

Den, I'm not arguing against you just for getting info for the basis of settings. I saw in another post where he had asked what is Sleepyhead and assumed he wasn't monitoring his therapy. And if insured he might have been able to at this time have a new machine. Those were my thoughts.
