Apria etc dme

Post by Melanndoll » Wed Jan 14, 2015 11:10 pm

I have been reading a lot online and on this website since first being recommended to have a sleep study. I was diagnosed with OSA and a cpap titration study has been scheduled. When the nurse called to tell me I asked her how I will get a machine. She said, they will deliver it to your home. I said, who is they? She said it will depend on my insurance, but they have a few companies they work with, for example apria. So, I guess my question is how does that work exactly? I understand that they would be my dme, but most of the things I have read on here people actually go to thier dme. But, she said they deliver it to you. So, a person woukd come to my home? Woukd they set it up? What kind of follow up would I need to have with them? I'm still a little confused by the dr, sleep lab and dme all needing to be involved!

Not all do home setup. It can be a useful service--but sometimes it is part of a strategy to give less service.
It's different all over. Read the blog at maskarrayed to start with.
You want a machine which will give you full efficacy data.
Welcome to the party!

Please read my blogpost "What you need to know BEFORE you meet your DME". Do some homework. Call your insurer to find out what DME providers are covered and how they cover your equipment (eg 13 month capped rental, outright purchase, etc.).

Don't act like a mushroom that is kept in the dark and fed BS. Advocate for yourself. You choose your DME and equipment within the parameters of your insurance.

Welcome to the forum.
Why don't you start off by reading the blog at this link. It was put together by one of our members.

https://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/what- ... me-part-i/

Then, there's some "stickies" at the upper part of this forum for new users to read.

Then, see how many questions you still have after you've read those and come back with them and we'll go from there.

If you let the medical mafia handle everything, you increase the likelihood of getting screwed. Be very sure you get a good, fully data capable machine.

You do have the right to choose your own DME, just like you can choose your own pharmacy, at least in the US. However, your insurance may only pay if you choose an "in network" DME. Find out who is in-network for your insurance. Try to avoid Apria and Lincare.

Make sure to get the right machine. If you have several DME's you can choose from, it's a lot easier to call DME number two and tell them that they can have your business if they dispense a PRS1 Pro instead of a PRS1 Plus.

You also want your own prescription on paper. It puts a lot more of the power in your own hands, especially in terms of buying equipment online or when you're traveling and need emergency supplies.

Read the links in my signature line, one of which is Janknitz's blog mentioned above.

If you have Humana gold HMO you have only a choice of Apria, Apria or Apria. ( In Texas)

Arpria has a reputation(and well deserved) in this forum. And I hate to have to say this but each Apria local office is unique in their handling of thier customers. Some will lie to your face, others will bend over backwards to help. My advice would be to know what you want going in. Ask them to show you the run (blower) hours and get copies of your prescriptiion for your records.
