Newbie with issues

Heya

So I'm a newbie and a youngster, I'm mid 20s and have been diagnosed with a severe form of OSA, I now have a cpap machine but I have 2 issues firstly I'm pulling it off in my sleep any tips or ideas to stop me? And also I feel like I'm very hot in my mask is this normal? I have a full face mask

What kind of machine do you have (please don't just say e.g. Resmed or Phillips as they both make loads of models) and what are your pressures set at please? The pulling mask off stuff is common, but there are ways to fix it. Are you using the ramp feature? At what pressure and timing? Lots of good help available here and most things can be fixed.

It's res med s9 and the pressure is set at 4 straight off I was under the impression it rises dependent on me is that right? Thanks

Good. Your machine has full treatment data available. To become more familiar with your machine and settings/options (including the clinician menu), take a look at the brief video tutorial I've linked to in my signature box.

You might be able to adjust temperature and humidification to relieve the "face feels too hot" issue. You could also consider a less heavy/intrusive mask -- is there a reason you couldn't try a nasal or nasal pillow mask?

As for taking the mask off during the night, there are some things you can try like putting a piece of tape on the mask where it contacts your face so that it's a little tougher to pull the mask off and you're more likely to wake up when you try. It will also be good to look at your pressure settings and some SleepyHead graphs to see what's going on when you remove the mask -- like, is your pressure increasing, is your mask leaking too much, etc.

To get the most help please register on the forum and post your equipment like we have in our signature boxes. Equipment varies a lot and we want to give feedback based on your particular machine and mask. If your equipment appears in every post you make, it will really speed things up.

I think most of your problem is that your pressure has been set so low (the machine's default low of 4) that you can't breathe at all, and you'll probably need to raise the pressure at least a bit (e.g. to 6) just to get going, though it's likely you'll eventually raise it higher. When you said 'straight' 4, did you mean you're using the machine in Cpap mode rather than auto? That also is a waste of a good auto machine.

You need to see a printout of your study results and then acquire a copy of the prescription (yours by law). The study will tell you where best to set the machine at - many doctors don't bother to go by results and just tell the dealer to set things at baseline (4 and 20 for the high default), which of course is very wrong and discourages many patients from getting treated.
