New user looking forward to picking up my CPAP
Hi all,
Im rob, at 19 stone I have had trouble with sleep for the past 10 - 15 years. Always feeling tired, up until recently I hadnt really connected the dots with it being anything more than being large. But in febuary I had an operation to remove my gall bladder and the apnea just vamped up a couple of notches. within a few weeks of my operation i began experiancing memory loss, lack of concentration and trouble focusing on objects to name but a few problems. So i visited the doctor (numerous times) and finally got sent for a sleep trail, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea immediatly afterwards and am now looking forward to picking up my CPAP on the 22nd.
Just curious as to other peoples experiance with Sleep Apnea, I have noticed an almost instantaneous decline in my ability to function. as i said above the condition started to worsen after my operation but over the past 4 - 5 weeks everything seems amplified - to the point where I fell alseep in the lift at work, and at my desk multiple times over the past few weeks. and constantly feeling spaced out.
EDIT: my appologies, I am from Nottingham in the UK.
Rob

Welcome to the forum, if you would share where you are (UK?) others will be familiar with the process there.

I think the english are the only people that use a different weight system for people than they do for everything else. *lol*chunkyfrog wrote:Welcome to the forum, if you would share where you are (UK?) others will be familiar with the process there.
they haven't so much embraced the metric system as they're toying with it. *lol*

To get us back on track, their medical accessibility is a whole 'nother ballgame, which is why I asked.

Really? I thought it was 18 pounds per stone. Between the stone and the lift, I figured UK. Got to be smug with my BF when I pointed that out earlier. I'm so pathetic that way.Julie wrote:"Stone" is 14 lbs if anyone's interested.

I guess they keep stones for people weight cuz it sounds like you weigh a lot less in stone than in kilograms

Re: New user looking forward to picking up my CPAP
Bless your heart! you ask for help, and everyone is talking about their stones... I don't know about everyone else, but I think my apnea has been going on for years. So, no all of a sudden, anything. My memory is poor, my stamina is short-lived, my naps in the afternoon after work became an important part of my day, the sheets at the foot of my bed were threadbare due to my foot movement, and I was told by my wife I stopped breathing very often, and started back with a gasp. I'm sure there are other problems, as well, but to be honest, I really don't remember all of them. Had a couple of very good nights, due to advice from forums such as this. Hope this offers some justification for the experience you will have to endure to see the benefits. Good Luck

Bluwind, it sounds like you're only a few days away from some significant relief. For me, starting CPAP therapy was pretty undramatic. I slept better and felt better. Hope the same for you. If you run into difficulties, or have questions, you know where to come for support and answers.

Welcome. Sorry you had to join us.
Read the links in my signature line. It may help you get a good CPAP machine and avoid some problems. Unfortunately, I think you have a lot less input into the process with the UK healthcare.
