BiPAP ASV Sleepyhead and Encore questions

Post by AfibApnea » Mon Dec 08, 2014 3:23 pm

I now use a Philips Respironics BiPAP autoSV Advanced System One

- I have installed and am running EncoreBasic V2.4.8 and SleepyHead v0.9.8-1 (testing)
- Both pieces of software have been and are able to download and read the data card from my CPAP machine.
- Neither seems to be able to read the data card coming from the BiPAP unit. When I inserted the CPAP card (30 minutes ago) a Drive G showed up and I was asked if I wanted to view the files on the drive (the behavior I expected). When I insert the BiPAP card minutes ago (first time, also made sure the card was write protected ) no new drive came up.

Neither program is able to read the card. This is what happens:

EncoreBasic [Download from Device]: “A Philips Respironics data card was not found”
SleepyHead [CPAP Importer]: [Window1]“Please insert your CPAP data card” (bar fills to 99%)) [Window2] “There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk2\DR2”

What’s wrong? What should I do?

you have to get the card to show up on your OS first, just like any other removable media.

it's not an encore or sleepyhead problem, they can't read a card that's not showing up.

Are you using a SD card reader/adapter in a USB port or are you using a slot in your computer designed for SD cards?
Sounds like whatever you are using isn't working properly.

I never said that I thought the software was at fault!

The card is basically the same kind of card (I assume - looks exactly the same, shouldn't be different) as that used by the CPAP machine, in the same card reader (USB driven) that read the CPAP machine card. Obviously it should show up in the "Computer" listing that shows the drives connected to the computer.

Reinserted it with copy protection off. Still didn't come up on the computer (Win7 Professional). The card is labeled "Philips Respironics". Reinserted the CPAP card...it came up!

You don't need to worry about doing the "write protect" thing with your SD card.
First of all Win 7 won't write anything to the SD card...it's Windows 8.xx that has been known to do that and even if it did the Respironics machines don't care if something is on the SD card written by the OS.
It's the ResMed machines that get really picky about having anything on the SD card that it doesn't think should be there.
Respironics machines won't care at all.

I don't know much about USB readers other than generally how they work but perhaps your computer couldn't find the SD card with write protection feature on. I know that shouldn't make any difference but I guess it did. If it is working now I wouldn't worry about it and if the only way your computer will see the SD card is with write protection not engaged...it won't hurt anything anyway.

AHA! Turns out the Four Port USB Hub stopped working!!

Now I can get on to asking questions about why my Bipap ASV seems to be working differently from when I first started using it (about 2 weeks ago).

And please feel free to delete this message from the board. And I'm sorry to have used up your time with this.

Thanks

No need to delete as I bet you aren't the only person in the whole world who might have USB port (or even SD slot) failure on their computer. Someone may stumble upon this little thread 6 months from now and have a similar "AHA" moment.
