Resmed S9 with H5i Humidifier Makes Clicking Sound
Resmed S9 with H5i Humidifier Makes Clicking Sound
Hi all, I have been using CPAP for 7 years. I recently updated my equipment to Resmed S9 with the H5i humidifier. Love the machine except for one issue. It makes a faint clicking sound every 3-5 seconds while plugged in. This sound is there whenever power is to the machine. It is during therapy and continues all day when not in use. The sound goes away if I unplug the power supply or disconnect the H5i humidifier from the main unit. Has anyone else noticed this? Can someone verify if their unit does this. The click is faint but I can hear it when trying to sleep.

I have two of the same set ups and never had that issue. I'd return it while still under 30 days for replacement if you can.

That humidifier clicking sound has been reported in the past. Several discussions about it here on this forum.
ResMed is aware of it and will pooh pooh it off as normal and not a defect....others have tried to get ResMed to do something about it. Some have said they think it is some sort of relay thing...I don't have time to search the forum for previous discussions but there were several.
I have owned 2 S9 machines and have never heard the clicking sound which means nothing as I know that a good many others have reported it. ResMed won't do anything I don't think...they don't consider it to be a problem ...or at least that is what others have mentioned here on this forum when they tried to get something done about it under warranty.
You might see if you can get your equipment supplier to swap out the humidifier...and maybe you will get lucky and get a humidifier that doesn't click.

Thanks Pugsy, It does sound like a small relay (which is a electrical switch). I will try to search for the threads you mention. I must have good hearing then and I cannot sleep with that click, kinda makes you listen for the next click and becomes annoying!Pugsy wrote:That humidifier clicking sound has been reported in the past. I have heard the click in my S9. It is in the humidifier, possibly the thermostatic switch --or Pugsy's aliens.
I moved the machine down below the edge of the mattress so that the sound would be muffled by the bed and covers.
Sometimes I leave out milk and cookies for the aliens.
