High Breath Rate - DeVilbiss IntelliPAP AutoBiLevel

Post by Rip Van » Sun Nov 30, 2014 5:40 pm

I'm using an IntelliPAP Auto BiLevel with the data module.
Reviewing my data it looks like I have a high breath rate of 16 - 18 BPM.
Is this something I should be concerned about or is it a normal function?
While my machine does not appear to have waveform settings or backup rate are there any settings that I can request that would lower my breath rate to a more normal level?

I don't know enough about your machine to give you any direction there but wanted you to know that normal respirations in an adult is 16 to 20 and sometimes as low as 12 so your numbers look within normal. Breathing rate is effected by your heart and lung conditions also. Do you feel like you are breathing fast and having difficulty or are you sleeping well and saw numbers that you thought were high?

It's well within a normal range and nothing to be concerned about.

It's really more about wanting to fine tune a machine with many controls for an optimum result.

I'm still getting more than a few hypo-apneas, NREs and the occaisional apnea.

I am not at all familiar with how the Devilbiss Bilevel machines work.
In general for bilevel machines we look at EPAP for Obstructive Apneas and IPAP for hyponeas but that is a generality because sometimes we move one or the other just to bring or push the other up. It depends on what the settings are and what is comfortable.
I usually tend to look at EPAP first because it is the baseline pressure. It needs to be a good starting point for everything else.
Non Responsives are non responsive for a reason and we can't do anything about them.
Seems to me like Devilbiss machines sometimes have more hyponeas then I would expect to see.

Are you using the software to view your data or just using the smart code thing?
