What does it mean if 90% EPAP level is sitting at min EPAP?

Post by Dave007 » Sat Nov 29, 2014 10:04 am

I'm using a Resmed ASV machine and am noticing that the 90% EPAP level is basically sitting above at my minimum EPAP level. My 90% EPAP level is 10 and my min EPAP level is 9...would this make sense to ask my doctor about raising my min EPAP level to 10?

90% Respironics numbers (and 95% ResMed numbers) just means for 90/95 % of the time the machine was at OR BELOW that number and it does not mean that EPAP needs to necessarily be raised to improve things.
People often forget the "or below" part of the % numbers.
If your EPAP setting was 4 and it spent most of the time up at 10 then yeah an increase would maybe be indicated if the AHI obstructive component numbers were higher than we want but you are already real close to the 95% number...if your software reports in terms of obstructive events are looking good then I wouldn't think an increase in the EPAP would be indicated and it might trigger more centrals (if the reason you are on ASV is because of pressure induced centrals).
