How to Improve Sleep Naturally
Interesting article. Some of the suggestions are not surprising (i.e., good sleep hygiene), but I found some others unusual (specific food and supplement recommendations, cold therapy, an earthing mat, etc.). Hope it's helpful.

Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.
Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy.

Re: How to Improve Sleep Naturally
I was originally going to say something very witty about New Age blah-blah-blah, but I already get enough hate mail, SOOOOO:
-I take 1/2 Seriphos 500mg (Phosphorylated Serine) once after dinnertime (Google SeriPhos). It's in a 1000mg gelatin capsule, therefore I pull it apart and take half, The powder tastes fine on my tongue. Most people take a whole cap, but I don't really need that much. It seems to help dampen my adrenal glands in the middle of the night and prevent racing mind/racing nervous system issues. Sort of a natural mineral sedative, IMO.
-I take 2-250mg totaling 500mg Magnesium pills to also support my nervous system and improve heart function, plus it helps smooth out my REM sleep stages. My cardiologist and PCP are both supportive if this (and all the rest of the supps too).
-I take 1500mg of any Potassium supplement to avoid leg cramps.
-I take 3-Vit D3 2000 IU supps a day which keep my blood serum levels of D3 at around 50%, a bit in the medium range, but I'm okay with that.
-I take one or two quality Multi-vitamins each day.
-I also eat lots of veg and fruit, restrict meat and excessive fat intake, plus avoid over doing caffeine and sugar. Every day vigorous exercise is a must for me. My sleep hygiene is excellent and my AHI is always below 1.5.
I've been using and adjusting these supplements and techniques for over a year and they work for me... your mileage may vary. Find what works for you.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Yeah, as in grounding. Gets rid of all of those negative ions - or maybe positive ions, I don't know. Either way, I'm good since I hardly ever wear shoes anymore.palerider wrote:all I have to say is "earthing mat"??!??!?!

Re: How to Improve Sleep Naturally
I think my wife has an earthing mat in the garden - she puts seeds or something in it and then if the snails don't get the shoots (they usually do) there might be some seedlings? I don't know, all these botanical terms get me confused and I end up with a headache. I'm okay with a lot of the New Age stuff, however draw the line at putting mirrors around my house to reflect away harmful feng shui vibes - like my neighbor does a few houses away (talk about bad public relations). Literally DOZENS of mirrors. Okay, now I'm really gonna get some hate mail.

it's your neighbors fault... they're reflecting the bad vibes into your house....Sir NoddinOff wrote: however draw the line at putting mirrors around my house to reflect away harmful feng shui vibes - like my neighbor does a few houses away (talk about bad public relations). Re: How to Improve Sleep Naturally
Fifteen years ago I asked them to turn down the volume on their Euro Deep Trance Band at 3am on a Tuesday night when I had to go to work at 6am that morning. Now their new thing seems to be crystal incantations, sonic entrainment loops and Buddhist gongs, therefore it's a lot more quiet these days. Hey, I live in California... what can I say?palerider wrote: it's your neighbors fault... they're reflecting the bad vibes into your house

well, hopefully they'll adopt the buddhist way and let go of that 15 year old grudge... that thing's almost old enough to drive!Sir NoddinOff wrote:Fifteen years ago I asked them to turn down the volume on their Euro Deep Trance Band at 3am on a Tuesday night when I had to go to work at 6am that morning.
