newbie need info
i just recently had a sleep study. They said I have 14 events per hour. From what I read that may be borderline? So I bought the Cpap machine and used it for the first time. I woke up and my chest and back hurt so much and still do. My ahi last night was .6. I am wondering if I really need this and hopefully didn't waste a lot of money.
Re: newbie need info
also I have low blood pressure most of the time. Will this cause problems for me?
Re: newbie need info
14 is not borderline. Up to 15 is mild... 15+ is moderate. 5/6 would be borderline. You stopped breathing 14 times in an hour...that's every 4-5 minutes. YES...you need this.Kelkris7 wrote:i just recently had a sleep study. They said I have 14 events per hour. From what I read that may be borderline? Re: newbie need info
What is your pressure setting?
Using exhale relief? If so at what setting?
Regarding blood pressure...while some people who happen to have high blood pressure will see their blood pressure reduce with optimal therapy not everyone will see it and it really doesn't do anything to people with normal to low blood pressure.
Shouldn't be a problem at all.
Anytime someone complains of chest discomfort we tell them to check with their doctor...chest discomfort can be from nothing or can be from something very bad. So get it checked out.
That said, some people will have some temporary chest wall discomfort after spending the night exhaling against the pressure. It takes a bit of "work" to exhale against pressure and that little extra work will sometimes cause sore chest wall muscles. It's really no different that doing some sort of exercising that is new and the muscles get sore from being overworked or worked in a different manner than they are used to.
We have no way to know what may be going on with you...It could be simply sore muscles and it could be something serious...call your doctor.
Oh...there's more to OSA than the AHI number...there's how long those events last and how low the oxygen levels might go. Apnea events need to last 10 seconds to get flagged but there's no way to evaluate how long they last and get some sort of "mild, moderate or whatever classification" and if they are lasting 45 to 60 seconds or longer it could be just as harmful to the body as if you had 50 or 60 per hour.
