bipap machine question
I was wondering when I turn on my bipap machine the pressure starts out at 6.0 CM H2O but when I am sound asleep my pressure gets bumped up enough to hold my airway open so I can sleep, why does the pressure not get bumped up when I first start the machine can anyone explain this to me so I can understand it more clearly for example instead of going to a 6.0 CmH2O the machine would bump up the pressure to 10 for example my pressure is set to 20cm H2O
Re: bipap machine question
The machine normally responds to air flow reductions with the pressure increases as it sees fit to use.
While awake you are breathing normally and there shouldn't be any air flow reductions unless you hold your breath on purpose and it might fool the machine and it might not.
So in other words there's no huge change while awake because it simply isn't needed and won't be needed until you go to sleep.

Re: bipap machine question
There is a ramp setting that can be off or as long as 45 minutes.
That tells the machine to start at a specific lower pressure as per the ramp starting pressure setting and increase the pressure to your min epap over the ramp period.
Your ASV machine will not be set for a pressure of 20.
You will have a minimum EPAP
Maximimum EPAP
Minimum PS
Max PS
and Max PRESSURE
These will all interact along with ramp in response to your breathing or lack of breathing to adjust your actual pressure at any given moment.
You should download SleepyHead Software so you can view the DATA on your SD card to see what is happining as you sleep.
You may find it very interesting.
